Oh, I should also add, I have vaped in a movie theater sitting next to my big brother who has no clue that I vape. He is under the assumption that I quit, and I have to admit I have not attempted to set him strait, as he would most likely rip me a new one, no matter how much info I gave on how its safe LOL. He never noticed.

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in the US nothing is "legal" in private business other than specific things that have been legislated so that businesses know they must allow them (like allowing all races, or allowing breastfeeding). And there may be laws on what is not allowed like not allowing smoking in any eating or drinking establishment. Anything that is not legislated is the business owner's choice and has nothing to do with the law.

I vape where smoking is allowed, and where smoking is not allowed either ask if I can vape or I vape where I cannot be seen.

IMO vaping is a way for ex-smokers to get their satisfaction without all the deadly side-effects. (This may not apply to all). Yes vaping is safe wherever you go but I think we have to remember that even though we are vaping we still DO give off the impression of smoking. Who know's if a young one thinks its "cool" and decides to go down the wrong path. I wouldn't want to lead any body down the path I went down.

I do wish I could openly vape more in public, not because it's convenient, rather I would like more smokers to see it and inquire. Hopefully, to save more lives as they ask "what is that?". : )

However, I believe that smoking has done so much damage to the perception of something blowing out of the users mouth, into the open air forcing those around to "smoke" too, that many people don't want to have to wait until the "powers that be" (FDA, etc...) tell them whether vaping is safe or not. So, I do not vape around anyone. It isn't that hard either (imho) to wait the half hour or even hour, to get to a place where I do not have to "subject" those around me to the concerns. And, we really can't say "it's safe". We can say with confidence that vaping is no way near as bad for us as smoking. But, there are no conclusive studies, yet if it is completely "safe".

Because E cigarettes are quite new, and there not quite as easy to get hold of as traditional smoking products or patches/gums etc, and a lot of people haven’t really seen them before.

I’m worried about being told off, as some people (such as staff of pubs etc) would take one look at vaping and immediately see smoking (which is illegal to do in public indoor building in the Uk). And even if you showed them the device along with a document or I-pad or something with the law that sets them straight they wouldn’t back down because some people (if this makes sense) fear what they don’t understand.

Vaping indoors is legal obviously, but….

Just because you can should you?

Have you ever been told not to vape indoors by anyone?

What if I’m confronted?

I don't even give it a second thought at this point. I vape in church and the priest looks at me but he's hip to the scene.

Just because it's "legal", doesn't always mean something should be done without restraint and consideration for others. E.g. belching in public, passing gas; sleeping; even sometimes eating. Last two are not cool in church, for sure.. In a day and age where laws are so restrictive, as to where one can smoke, I think it is sort of normal for us Vapers to see the new found freedom of vaping as a win win. But, we still need to be considerate, even of what people are thinking. If I had young kids, and I saw someone vaping within my kids breathing space, I would not appreciate it.

Just sayin'...

A bit of history.
I smoked analogs for over 45 years until I became a vaper in mid-December. Smokers were once courteous people; courteous to the point where we would put out our cigarettes or move if people complained. Unfortunately, this courtesy got us pushed right out the door because we were always so nice about it. Based on the fate of the smokers of the world, I would suggest two things:
1) Vape with courtesy. Being polite goes a long way, and most people don't know what our devices are.
2) Stand your ground. By this I don't mean that you should be insolent (see #1 above), but if approached negatively, try to explain the device, its benefits, and the lack of danger to others. If you can't convince the proprietor, simply don't give him your repeat business.
If vaping becomes a legislative target like cigarette smoking, WE are mostly to blame.

Tacoma Wa,
I didn't get any looks when i started with a cigarette sized ecig. untill someone at worked noticed my "cigarette" didn't get smaller as I vaped.
Then i got stainless steel eGo's and started getting questions/comments after adding a 5ml stainless tank to it i got even more questions.
I got a Cylon (Lavatube) last Thursday and have had more questions in the past two days that the last almost 5 months combined.
I understand that a big mod looks weird. so i awnser them and tell em how i quit smoking with them.

But I don't vape where I was not allowed not to smoke before.
Where i live it's legal as long as the owner says it's ok.

I still feel weird vaping in all the vaping stores around my apartment when I shop there.
The last vaping store i went to i had my wife and kids with me. and I took a drag and saw people in the walkway of the mall style store drop their jaws like i was smoking.. then they saw what the place sold and moved on.
So I know if i tried it in a reguler store or eatery I would prolly get knife eyes shot at me.
