I cannot believe all of the kindness and warmth I have received from this forum. I needed to figure out how to segue into vaping on a tight budget and everybody jumped in to offer tons of options and support. I have quickly come to love and respect this group of wonderful people and want to say a HUGE thank you to every one of you.

Your arduous efforts will not go underutilized... I am certain that we will be able to make this work and will eventually need to expand his set-up. So you best believe that we will be using your advice! I hope someone new to the game stumbles upon this thread for all of the valuable information contained within it.

We've been given a twist, charger, box of boge cartos and some juice. Its charging now and will take its maiden voyage tomorrow. YAY!!

I got him all set up late afternoon today and he only smoked 1 cigarette before bed!! He said wow, that nicotine must be working because I haven't even smoked a cigarette... Then 10 seconds later announced that he was going to go smoke a cigarette! lol baby steps, baby steps.

xD well at least you're being a good example for him.
It's crazy. my husband didn't even smoke that much until I started trying to quit
Finally after he saw how well I was doing on not smoking and me pestering him enough to get a kit he said he didn't WANT one of the cigalikes, he wanted an ego like me. I was like fine but quit bringing cigarettes home =0
He's been doing great, now we're working on getting his brother started
So yea, give him time and after he sees YOU doing it he might try too

That is so, so cool and he deserves a lot of credit for putting so much faith into you and this system. As for you young lady...you are astounding and certainly due a HUGE amount of credit for all the research you did and the politeness and kindness that you extended to all of us...you are truly family
Thank you so very, very much for this update- you'd be very surprised at the number of people following this thread in a similar situation and I know this has been of great help and, better yet, an inspiration to them. Have a GREAT day

When his kit arrived this weekend, he put it up and told me not to touch it. It was his new toy and he wanted to be the first to play with it... and he knows I'm impatient and would've gotten it out and charged and all put together without him. lol I did force him to open it and put the battery on the charger so it would be ready to go when he was ready to play. Yesterday afternoon, he sat down with the battery the box of cartos the drip tip and the liquid and just stared at it all. He picked up one thing an put it next to the battery, then picked up the next... then he just thrust it all at me and said "here, I don't know how to do this stuff." hehehehehe I win! I love playing with new things. I did the condom fill method with some menthol juice, I was going to spin it down but I couldn't find the drawstring pouch I was going to use (thank you son). I wiped the carto off with a tissue after I filled it and gave it to him. It took us a minute to figure out what type of battery it is, I kept telling him to click it 5 times then draw, so he did and just got a little wisp of vapor and he was like eh. I said hold on, somethings not right... try holding the button down when you draw. He took his first hit and his eyes got as big as saucers!!!! bahahahahahaha I should've thought to have the camera on standby, that was priceless!

Now, back to the tissue I wiped the carto off with.... I've had a sinus infection for going on 2 weeks now, so I'm hoarding tissues like I'm on TLC. I couldn't throw away such a slightly used tissue, so I set aside for later. I forgot what I had used it for and stuck the tissue *in* my nose.... promptly getting a nice cooling sensation, followed by an oh shyt what have I done! A short time later I had a headache, my heart was racing and I felt light headed. I was like no wonder you have anxiety issues, nicotine sucks, you're an idiot! To which he countered that I was the one that was actually the idiot for shoving e-liquid up my nose. Touche my dear, touche. That was a fun ride for a couple of hours.

Next stop, drug store, for rubber gloves and smaller tissues!

 Funny story.

My guess is you were more affected by the menthol flavoring than the actual nicotine from the juice on that tissue. Menthol is one of the stronger flavors. And the "anxiety attack" that you had was probably self-induced. Such a small amount of either nicotine or juice flavoring would not affect a person adversely.

I get e-liquid on my fingers all the time while filling cartomizers or cartotanks. I wash my hands when I'm finished, not that big a deal.

Agree, probably self induced, I too just rinse it off without a second thought, concern, or effect.
But Tracey is a non-smoker, never had nic, may be hypersensitive to that or the menthol. And the juice was given to her, perhaps it's some hi octane 36 or even higher home brew. Just a thought, not sure.

Don't need to use Kleenex, I have a stack of napkins from the fast food places sitting beside my juice if I dribble some.

No crazy levels, lol.... I'm just super sensitive to things. If I drink more than one can of pop in a day I get all sweaty and heart palpitations lol... I'm a weenie. You should see me with a coffee!

Night 2 and again only 1 cigarette!! He seems astonished that he doesn't even crave a cig like he normally does... he's usually outside 5-10 times in the evening for a cig!! Still smoking at work, but I'm perfectly fine with that.. Hopefully before too long he'll take to vaping outside the home. He seems maybe a little shy or embarrassed by it, because I've only seen him do it 3 times and he tries to sneak it when he thinks I'm not paying attention. :( Oh well, at least he's giving it a shot. It seems to be doing the job and doing it well.

Thanks again, everyone!!

Ok, you guys, now that I have bd on board with vaping at home we need to know where to start! Bd gripes that I over-think everything and have an obsession with researching on-line.... pffft whatever! :D I asked him what he wants his e-cig to be like and he said he was just going to go to the store and buy one (he doesn't like buying things on-line). After all that I've read here and other places, I'm afraid that will be a death knell.... So in true Tracie form, I'm going to obsess behind his back and try to figure out what I think would work best for him and "innocently" recommend it in passing.. hehheheheee mwahahahahahahahaaa *cough cough ahem! Any way, here's what I'm working with.

-42 yr old african american male, 6'3" 180lbs, pack a day Newport smoker, smoker for at least 20yrs.

-Drinks 3-6 cans of Bud Light nightly (I did read the Coors Light thread).

-Goes outside 5-10 times per night to smoke when he gets off work... btwn 4:30pm - 12:00am roughly.

-Is a maintenance man on a large college property... they break everything, constantly, making him very tired when he gets home... so he won't want to have to fiddle with a whole bunch of nonsense.

-He has a tendency to drop things when he hangs out with Bud Light.... and our 2yr old likes to throw things.

-He will most likely continue smoking Newports at work and when out with the boys, so keeping the vaping cost manageable is a must or he will just say that he can't afford a refill and smoke from the pack he already has.

-Most importantly, I want this to be an enjoyable experience for him. I want him to be able to relax and feel good when he's home with his family... not to dread coming home because he's being forced to vape and hates it.

Thank you guys so much for all of the incredibly warm welcomes and the plethora of information you have on this site!! I hope to be getting my son and bd involved here soon as well.

TIA ~Tracie

My suggesting, and I suggested this in a different thread is go to Casaa s website to start and print off some information that you might think might adhere to him (reasons that he might consider reasonable to quit) from there I would also print off or show him some youtube videos of reviews of the poorer quality gas station e cigs. I would then start by showing him an Ego along with the dementions (start with the 1000 mah) and wait for him to say to big. Then I would suggest the ego 650 with a mega cart (no bigger than a medium size cigar) and if he still says to big go for the kill by saying ok heres a cig a like with rave reviews and take him to the volt e cig website. reason I say it in this order is because the ego, even though it's a great starter kit, also gives you room to grow and new attachments that can be used (tanks, carts, atomizers, cartomizers) but if nothing else for a well made cig a like I would have to reccommend volt if a cig a like is the only way he was wanting to go (because of size) but as priorly stated you can't really force someone to vape because it just won't work. Hope my advice helps if not totally maybe even a little bit

Tracie, I think that your beau is a very lucky guy. In your quest to find information on ecigs you have shared a bit of yourself and shown yourself to be dedicated, caring, giving and concerned for your man.

I am glad for both you and him, that he is taking to vaping in the way that you describe. Give it time, and don't be surprised if/when he starts wondering why he is still smoking at all. When I started, I had already given up hope on quitting. I got in to vaping just hoping that I could cut back. I ended up quitting in 2 days, It takes some people longer. He is not dumb, he will eventually consider the health issues and get over the self consciousness of being seen with an ecig. He may very well soon be looking for something more robust that he can "personalize" to his style. The color choices are endless, and he can have a very manly stainless steel tool quality PV if he desires.

I am glad to read of your success and got a great smile following your progress.

it might take a while to get him used to doing it /comfortable with it.
I know I still feel weird vaping in public.

I think he's going about it in the right way without worrying about being "perfect" and quitting immediately  Far too many times we see new vapers get stressed because they're not 100% vaping right off the bat and he's just listening to what his body is telling him. He's also going to discover he won't get the "drive me up a wall" nic cravings as when he was smoking.

He seems maybe a little shy or embarrassed by it, because I've only seen him do it 3 times and he tries to sneak it when he thinks I'm not paying attention.
There will come a time when this all changes. When he begins to smell the old stale "tobacco smell", when his sense of taste and smell improves and when he notices his breathing is much improved and analogs don't seem to taste as good as they once did he won't care where he vapes or who sees him...you may have created a monster :D

This may sound stupid but make sure he is drinking lots of water as the vapor comes from our bodies and not the juice. Thanks again for the update...following this thread is like reading a good book.
Drs have found the lung cilia that have been buried in tar and paralyzed by smoking (true fact) begin to revitalize/ bounce back within days of quitting smoking.
All the Very Best to Yourself and Craig.

Hi Tracie and 'The Vape Master' !

I think your man- 'The Vape Master' is doing Great !...(and you are doing a wonderful job helping too !)
Every cig that he passes up in the evenings is one less he smoked.

I can understand that he's a man's man...and doesn't what to 'explain' Vaping to the guys.
But, does he really care what those fools think ?
He is 'The Vape Master', and can do as he wishes...too bad for them if the Vape Master is ahead of the curve.
Smoking is the same thing our great-great grand fathers did...nothing new there.
Vaping IS the new (and much better) way to get the nic that we need,
Without all those 4000 toxins in the burning ciggy.
(Even the smoking fools know all about those toxins...and the clay they put in them so the go out if not smoked for a minute).
Vaping is the new way...glad your getting on the Vape train, and leave the ciggys (and the expense) to the other guy.

Please show this to 'The Vape Master'
You stick with this Vaping, and you will be so far ahead in a couple WEEK'S...you will not believe how you did it !
It works...I know !
Me: 40 yr., PAD+ Marboro red smoker.
Never-Never could quit. Patches, cold turkey, gum, hypnotist ( but not the meds- not a pill man and heard horror stories)
Tried and tried...then gave up trying. Gonna die a smoker.
Tried one of those BLU's...ok...lasted like five minutes.
Came to ECF, lurked around...ordered an eGo-c
Got my eGo Friday, 1/4/13... Vapped like a madman. No ciggys
Tried a 'burro' Saturday Am after vapping...tasted bad, 2 puff put it out !
My old companions, of forty years- tasted bad...my vape tasted good.
Burned up all my "bacco" stash that day. I'm a Vaper now !!!

Rooting for You !

He's already starting to talk about wanting to shoot ball again. We've been together for 3yrs and he's always talked about basketball and how much he misses playing but hasn't picked up a ball since we met. I think he foresees the ability to run up and down the court without collapsing in his near future! hahahahaa I think its a great summer goal to set for himself, cut the cigs in at least half and start shooting ball again. I think he will feel phenomenal.

He got started with an ego twist and boge cartos. Its pretty big, having a hard time finding something to keep it safe from our little one, but I'm still digging around the house for something to fit it so that he doesn't have to unscrew it every time he finishes. He seems pretty pleased with it, but still getting used to the idea of it.

And how much better does this "good book" get. Keep in mind I'm an old toot but when I was younger was heavily involved in all sorts of sports- actually came close to being on the Mens Olympic Swim Team- was offered scholarships, etc. I found I wanted SOOO bad to get back into sports but my lungs cared not to participate
After a few months vaping I began getting back into sports that I once loved- its' prolly, to me, one of the best aspects of quitting smoking. Had to move 100+ wheel barrels uphill about 100' at the cottage- took me 6 hrs and told my wife if I was still smoking it would've been a 2 day job. Swimming- when smoking out of breath after 25 yards...can now swim a continuous 5 miles in the Bay. Most of my converts seem also to get motivated in regards to a new healthier lifestyle, another benefit of vaping.
