In California, star-bucks has banned smoking on the padio, which I think has reduced their business at my star-bucks. I'm curious if anyone has had any issues vaping outside star-bucks?

I have done it a few times, with no issues. I sit away from anyone and stealth vape. Of course the employees at my star bucks tend to look the other way to smokers, since the patio is pretty much empty during the summer.

Btw, I generally don't vape were I can't smoke. But its a bit difficult to to vape anywhere but the patio because of the way its set up.

Hmmm. I used to smoke at all the different Starbucks in my town and plenty of the ones in surrounding cities. The one Starbucks I still frequent still has the regular smokers outside/on the patio. Needless to say, no problems with my vaping there. I know some cities have different laws regarding smoking in front of public venues within so many feet, maybe your Starbucks was forced to enforce a preexisting law?

Trapped by Schrödinger's cat....
Nope. Starbucks Corporate issued a company wide No Smoking policy.
Every Starbuks that is Corporate has to go by this.

Go inside and look, they should have little informational business cards.

It's the same at my Starbucks as well.

Though I did educate them about vaping, so they are ok with that, though it may well still violate the spirit of the company line....

People looked at me weird when I saw a late night showing of "Salt". I walked by me and my brother were vaping on my e-cig and people turned they're head like what was that!? I also did it once in the movie theatre and my bro told me the reaction of the person behind me, he looked confused cause he saw smoke, he just didnt see me smoking (stealth ftw!) and didn't smell it. It was funny :D

I would either refrain from vaping or sit in the back if I was in a movie theatre. I'm sure the vapor going up would be annoying to someone behind me trying to watch the picture.

i think vaping in areas where you arent allowed to smoke will eventually come back to haunt the entire e-cig community. with the FDA on our backs, other countries banning e-cigs, and now certain states banning it we might be seen as rebellious and deserving of our fate if e-cigs are banned completely. vaping in public cant do anything but perpetuate the myth and ruin what we are trying to do.

I think the opposite is true. The more we freely partake of vaping in public, the more the public becomes aware of the fact that this is not the same as smoking. They become informed of the fact that there is no secondhand smoke issue, it's pretty much odorless, and thus become used to vapers using their PV's in public.

i think it could go either way. i believe we are both right. if we refrain from becoming rebellious when told to go elsewhere and instead educate, it could have the effect we want. however, some of us are naturally rebellious and defiant, this wont help us at all.

ONe of my favorite things to do is to go to the book store with hubby and both kids, get each of us a new book, then head to the Starbucks patio where we all read and sip coffee/hot chocolate. I always vape out there. They allow smoking out there too. I would have felt uncomfortable smoking right ON the patio because there are usually people out there NOT smoking and studying and stuff. I'd have probably moved toward the parking lot outside of the patio area. But with the vaping, I don't have to worry about smokin' anybody out!

Yeah... I'm rebellious ;)

I don't think we should allow them to make us think we're doing something shameful. I don't think we should have to hide. I only stealthvape in movie theaters because I don't want to obscure other people's view. I won't blow vapor in people's faces, but I won't have them telling me that I'm some horrible person for doing something harmless to them.

In Vegas I'm not sure of the laws regarding smoking outside Starbucks, but I know I used to smoke on the patio as little as 4 years ago for hours with my dad drinking coffee and talking. I'm pretty sure my local Starbucks just doesn't care.

That or the led on the tip...its like when someone texts on a phone during the movie...in a dark theater a little light can look way bright.

Its a fine line....the question is how do you make other people aware of what these devices are (and are not) without them also getting all worked up because you are "smoking". Because once some people get in a huff, there is no reasoning with them.

We need some good PR people.
