You're probably right, maybe I'm just expecting too much...

My flask is doing some weird stuff. It's randomly switching to kanthal mode and I have to take the atty off and put it back on, sometimes several time, to get it back... It also will not fire out of locked mode if it sets too long, after five clicks to unlock it immediately displays "TEMPERATURE PROTECTION"... I think it's probably going back...

I have never had these experiences on my Waidea. I have issues with it detecting Kanthal coils as Nickel - vaping them in TC mode for several seconds before it realises and changes to volts - but I haven't had a Nickel coil regularly drop out of TC mode. I think it did happen once or twice, but that was on my Lemo 1 before I fixed the 510 pin when it was very unreliable for TC. Other attys always stay in TC fine.

Are you still only using the STM or are you getting this on many attys?

Re the unlock mode, the Waidea doesn't actually stay locked for a long time. That's one of the downsides of the non-Infinite Flasks, Kangxin and Waidea. So if you lock it then go away for X minutes (30? 60? can't remember) it will no longer be locked. Instead it will basically have reset - or it will reset when you press fire. You press fire, it says "dna 40", then it shows 0.00 resistance and you have to press fire to get it to read the resistance, then you can vape. This is the "double tap from sleep" issue that people talk about, and is the number one problem/deficiency of the Kangxin/Waidea flasks.

So you pressing fire five times after leaving it would count as: one click to turn it on, another click to read resistance, and then three fires. So probably you're firing three times in a row, though I'm not quite sure why that should trigger an immediate TEMP PROTECT . Unless this is another symptom of your first issue - a dodgy atty or connection to atty, with wavering resistances.

In these situations have you verified, after coming back to it after a long while, that it is in fact locked? You press fire once to wake it up and you see the CLICK 5xLOCKED message on screen?

I agree with @ThunderDan that at this stage it's far from certain that it is broken. It might be. Or all your problems might step from not understanding some of its quirks, and unstable resistances in your atty(s).

More info is needed to diagnose.

And that is also why Focal want a video. They don't want to pay $20 for you to ship back a product that's not broken. Besides which, it's also probably mostly out of their hands. Waidea insists on these steps and the Chinese vendors seem to usually do what the Chinese manufacturers/distributors demand. At least that was my identical experience with 3FVape and my Waidea, when it was initially DOA.

FastTech is the exception because of their own no-quibble 45 day guarantee - though they will charge shipping both ways if you're returning it when it's not actually faulty. I don't know if they ask for videos up front or just issue the RMA, but if you were to RMA and it wasn't faulty I am sure they would then charge you shipping costs.

Try several attys and see if the TC detection improves. Check the lock-after-sleep. If you can't figure it out still, I would suggest you do make a video. Show it to us first, maybe we can identify things you're misunderstanding or can improve. If not, and it really does seem faulty, then you'll already have a video ready to show Focal.

Hopefully they are one of the 1% of us that have a 1.3mm hex wrench....geeze what a Dumb A** size.
Actually this sounds like a rather common 0.050" allen size. Used on slot cars, RC toys, and now it seems mods. But if it's actually a T5, or Torx of whatever size- that's the tool that should be used to avoid damage.

Well it is not a Torx , it's a hex. But a T5 fits it well, probably 1.4 mm Allen key.

I thought I would chime in on this SXK/Infinite/Geeco or whatever it is ;) I received the Zero 50w FT version today and, I have to say this thing is spot on! fit and finish is very nice :) and sofar the chip seems great, although I haven't tested TC yet. so, I think it's safe to say that the flask, zero and rdna mods from SXK on fasttech are gooders :)

I think it's me and my impatience along with a little ocdish tendancy... I did the cotton burn test. And TC is working just fine... Wound a new coil and wicked it a little looser like RIP does in his build video and I'm running good at 490/30w... I think I'll probably just keep it...

Now I have the infinite vf 50w, an old vtr and a kbox, I think I need two other mods
Thinking about:
Ipv4: dont like the big look of it 79$
Vf mini: no review yet 50$
Hb dna 40: very boxy 120$
Snow wolf 200w: big and boxy but powerful 129$
Joytech 60w: pre order :(. 59$
Segli 75w: haven't seen the reviews yet

Maybe another VF but with dna 40, ( didn't find it yet)

or mabye somthing not on my list yet
One I saw on pre-order 2 days ago is the sx mini s class clone. $47.47. I almost ordered but my FT flask isn't even here yet for one. Two- no reviews 3. I really want the SX mini M class(authentic) that being said the pics looked awesome & $47.47 is nothing. Especially vs. $199. I am going to try & wait on review though

If/when this cloned chassis does come out, it opens up another possibility:

Buy the cloned mod for $50, add the genuine SX350J for $80, get an SX Mini M for $130. Requires you put it in yourself but you end up getting near enough a genuine SX Mini M at a significant saving. I'd think it's a reasonable bet that the cloned chassis will be of decent enough quality; it's not exactly complicated.

It's a long way from a $50 clone but it's a useful option for those wanting the SX Mini M at a somewhat more down to earth price.

In the UK there's a vape vendor that's been selling Vapor Flask clones with genuine DNA 40s. They use the Infinite chassis with a genuine DNA 40 and sell it for £100 / $160. Expensive by clone standards, but still half the price of the real VF DNA 40. And given the DNA chip sells to end users for £45 in the UK, it means you in effect pay £55 for the chassis + fitting, compared to the £35 it would cost you to buy a cloned DNA 40 Flask from China. Works out to paying £20 extra ($30) for the vendor to fit it for you and provide a warranty - pretty good. (Though if you fitted it yourself you'd also end up with the cloned board you swapped out, which might be of value to some.)

Anyway I could definitely see that happening with the Yihi SX350J if the chassis turns out to be good.

Maybe if the price of the sx350J board comes down- $80.00 plus shipping is too steep for me. I got an Evolv DNA 25 board, DNA 40 board and a 1A onboard charger and didn't spend that much. The J is a nice board and all, but not that nice. To me, anyway.

I see you got the link. I've been off for a little while. Well, I ordered a ST MINI from FT & got it today. Which is great but it shipped AFTER my flask. On my tracking my damn flask still says it is in China! Plus this is Memorial Day weekend in U.S. & post offices closed on Monday. So no update til Tuesday probably.

Have you tried:
ALL-IN-ONE PACKAGE TRACKING
It gives you more info on the shipping status of your package. Basically the USPS page will display "origin post is preparing for shipment" even though your flask might even be in U.S. customs already. The 17track will display the Chinese carrier info and should include the airport code where it was sent (USJFKF in my case) My last FT order took exactly 9 days from the "shipped" e-mail until receipt. Not bad IMHO.

17Track is wonderful, could not live without it :)

And thankfully they understood the needs of their OCD users and implemented their site such that when you put the tracking numbers in and Submit it refreshes to a URL containing them. So you can then bookmark that URL and return to it any time to run the search immediately.

I have three packages on my Track17 bookmark right now.

When Nicole was on looking for Ideas, I said I was looking for a temperature controlled Egrip on steroids.

Just saw that Yiloong is thinking along same lines with their really poor attempt called Pinocchio. Very poor execution IMHO.:(
  • The boxy control panel is what I was worried about with the wider dna4o layout when I was describing my idea to Nicole in PM,
  • usb charge port still on bottom of unit so it cannot be charged in upright position,
  • tank/atomizer cannot be removed for cleaning & maintenance,
  • tank capacity is crap (less than egrip) because they sacrificed it to make the drip tip retract (unnecessary), & to keep a smaller overall size than necessary to hold in your hand,
  • fill method is absurd requiring you to carry a screwdriver & risk losing the screw in the field but I guess they don't want to infringe on the Joytech ez-fill design,
  • only fires down to 0.2 SUB OHM COIL in temp control
  • atomizer head only supports stock nautilus coils.
  • no RBA option available.

Definitely NOT what I was trying to describe in a mod
but unfortunately, it is the closest thing out there I can find coming out so far.
