Some one brought to my attention that another kind of Panasonic cell is being called the CGR replacement?

NCR18650PD_01.jpg

This is NOT a safe chemistry cell!!

It needs a protection circuit.

If you see anybody claiming that this cell is as good or better than the CGR18650CH....set them straight and tell them that this battery WILL explode just like any other unprotected ICR battery if handled or charged/discharged improperly.

Budgetlight forum comments and discharge graphs

Just because is has a 10 amp drain doesn't mean that it's the CGR/CH twin....IT'S NOT!

Note: DO YOUR HOMEWORK WHEN BUYING batteries!!

no one ever said it was a twin, and no one ever stated this is the same chemistry as the 2250. most of us aren't stupid enough to not be able to read the label and notice this is a straight up LI battery just like an AW.
i think you misinterpreted the statement or they posted the statement incorrectly. when they said replacement they meant as in taking over the 2250's spot on the shelf at vendors and in devices that would fit the old 2250's its the new high Mah alternative. at least this is the way i understand it at places like orbtronics.

Hey you. That's what I do every day! Ha ha. I love it. They are my mares and it's pride of ownership. Saves me the price of a gym retreat. Blast out Some great tunes if I'm not enjoying hearing the horses be horses or birds and sun and things. I'd love to get paid to do it except my shoulder is kind of breaking down...... Hmmmmm.
I hit that website a couple of times a day and look at all the cool deals I have no money to take advantage of.

Need a job so bad I wouldn't mind shuffling manure.

I was told that a vendor is "hyping" that these NCR/PD's as identical or better than a CGR/CH.

In reality, they're not even close!

The NCR is no different than than any other unprotected ICR cell and is DANGEROUS to the unsuspecting and/or uneducated VV or VW device user.

A CGR won't vent or explode....it's a safe battery for high amperage consuming devices, the NCR/PD ....unprotected....IS NOT SAFE!

So if the vendor is making such claims and selling these cells unprotected and comparing them as the CGR/CH replacement, they're sadly mistaken and are misinforming the public.

then yea i agree with you in that respect they are not hybrid batteries and that vendor shouldnt be doing that.

most of the reputable vendors i have checked on have represented this battery as just taking the SKU slot for the older 2250 as the next above 2000 mah alternative.

the CGR is a different chemistry it is not a protected battery.

You could just use a fuse with them or put them in a VV/VW mod with protection built in.

Protection in a mod won't protect the battery itself from a dead short circuit, an over-charged or an over-discharged cell and the battery WILL EXPLODE!

Make no mistake, this cell needs a protection circuit that's made specifically for this high power battery!
