I'm sure that's why VF moved to the SX chip on their next release, the DNA40 challenges were probably a lot to deal with a killed their margins.

This group seems to have a good head on their shoulders. They listened to the consumer, they way they changed the way you load batteries is a perfect example. People asked for a more competitively priced device, again they listened. They continue to listen to their consumer and try and innovate.

I'm sure they had a lot of input into the chip used in their devices. They spent a decent amount of time overseas from the interviews I've seen. We'll see how this launch goes and how they support the new gear. If the CS remains the same then I will continue to buy their gear.

100w on a single battery! That's a bad, bad design. And it really annoys me that popular reviewers can't learn such basic facts.

It's a 26650 in the Stout, and 100w is no problem for a quality battery, but if you use the supplied 18650 adapter, it automatically reduces max output to 75 watts.

That is a Lot of Amps for a Single Battery.

I mean for me, it Isn't an Issue. Because I would Never use anywhere near 100 Watts. But for someone setting a Single Battery VW Mod to 100w, that is a Lot of Amps.
26650s have greater capacity than 18650 batteries. 30a-65a.

with 18650 sleeve mod is limited to 75w.

26650s don't have higher amp ratings than 18650s, they have more capacity. In fact, 18650s are by far the more used and therefore more advanced. The LG hb6 is pretty much the highest capable 18650 and it can do about 86w within its cdr (90% device efficiency, 3.2v cutoff). Sure, it can do more, but designing a mod to exceed the cdr of the highest (true) rated battery is irresponsible.

At 100w and 90% efficiency, battery cutoff at 3.2v, the amp draw is 35. Of the tested 18650s at dampfakkus gee Sony us26650vt and Keeppower IMR 26650 4200 mAh have the highest amp rating of 50 amps. The Sony "is not convincing at any load" and the voltage of the Keeppower plummets at 35 amps. Like with 18350s and 18500s there aren't many to trusted manufacturers of 26650s.

I just haven't followed 26650 Batteries all that much. And don't know of Any 40 ~ 65 Continuous Amp 26650.

Who makes High End 26650 these days?
MNKE used to but these days there seems to be 2 versions of this battery and it's a crap shoot. Other than that there's efest which I wouldn't personally run at high wattage and the Keeppower which I doubt perform anywhere near as well as they claim to, finally there is MXJO which has a 26650 offering. Don't have one personally but the reports seem to be decent still a 20a battery though.

MXJO IMR 2500mAh 20A Cont 35A Pulse

Honestly at this stage until we get better options I'll stick with dual or even triple 18650s, back in the Genny days we had very decent 26650 options from Orbtronics and MNKE but we were running them at 10-30w max so maybe we just didn't notice how bad the situation really was.

I would think these are plenty of guys who know a lot about what a 26650 can deliver considering how popular subohming with unregulated 26650 tube mods was a year or two back. I remember the vid of the fool that took 6 strands of 22ga kanthal in his rda and kept repeatedly firing it cherry red. Then was surprised when his unregulated tube mods 26650 vented on him.

Compared to what those guys were doing back then, I feel pretty damn comfortable with the design of the stout within the parameters of its intended use and consider it much safer than using an unregulated device.

I don't know too much myself about 26650s but do see these:

VF offers the Brillpower 26650 (not sure who the real maker is under the wrap), and I'm willing to give VF the benefit of the doubt on both choosing a decent and safe battery to offer for sale to go with their device, and being sensible about the power rating on the Stout, since it's their reputation on the line, and they're the ones handling warranty expenses as well. If just ONE of these vents a battery, it would damage the hell out of both their reputation and Wismec's.

Lets also not forget, the Stout auto-restricts max output based on resistance/max device voltage, AND won't fire at ALL if the actual battery voltage at the time of firing has dropped to unsafe levels for the wattage setting selected. It's not a pipe bomb.

Yeah... There are a lot of 26650 Batteries out there. And the Amp Limits tend to be represented much like 18650 Batteries are. That is, Many times the CDR Limit as advertised as Higher than what the Batteries test at.

Example. I noticed this for those Sony SE US26650VT Batteries...

"The battery is rated for 50A, I did only test up to 30A, but looking at the curves I would say it is a good idea to stay below 20A, because it has nearly full capacity at that current."

Hate to break it to you but the genesis days (what I was referring to) were more like 3 years ago and no none were subohm'ing crazy clouds. Right around then is where I at least stopped hearing about any 26650 mods at all. Mainly because no one was making the ultra wide mechs anymore. There might have been a niche market for a few when sub ohm'ing was finally a thing but yeah... Take any battery that claims 50a CDR with a big grain of salt. At the very least wait for proper testing.

Mooch is testing 26650s right now so we'll soon know. Thus far the results aren't anything astounding.
