This is just me so, FWIW
I vape unflavored 20mg 80/20
juice, on a 1.8ish ohm coil. All day, everyday. I have no desire to change anything, I'm quite happy with it. When I smoked, I stuck with a single brand of cigarette for years and years. I think some folks get into changing it up just to fill in the time.
Remember, for many,
vaping "at first" was quite fiddly and time consuming, and I think some of us got into the habit of fiddling.
I vape like I smoked, I just don't have the cough or wheezing I used to.
I think you hit the nail on the head here for some, me included. I started vaping 5 years ago, and it took a fair bit of work and tinkering to get the equipment working at all back then. For years, vaping all day meant tinkering with your hardware and constant refilling. Hours went into getting atomizers dialed in or cleaned, getting cartridges to feed (fluval, blue foam, tea bags, remember all that?), cartos filled, batteries charged (my first ones lasted about 20-30 minutes at a go). A good setup for me might give me a couple hours with at least 3-4 battery swaps, then I'd have to tinker with something to get it to work again! Then I got into rebuildables, specifically gennies. Then came hours of torching mesh, rolling the perfect wick, working out hotspots, troubleshooting what went wrong when you suddenly got hotspots, troubleshooting feeding issues, etc. Then I got the hang of that, so I started collecting mods and stuff. Tubes everywhere! All kinds of drippers and tanks and unicorn chasing.
But when I went back to a Reo in August/September, somewhere around that, and everything just worked. ALL DAY and every day. I got a few more of them and have literally not touched any of my other stuff in 6 months or so. I'm so used to tinkering with this stuff, where is the hobby aspect?
So now, not often, but when I want to tinker for the sake of tinkering, I play with coils. Not necessarily to blow clouds (for me anyway), but to dial in flavor, TH, etc, or just to see what happens and how it's effected.
I would bet that plays some part in the desire to tinker for some of the other REOnauts around here as well.
