I hear you Russ, but why did you ever get verified then unless to sell your old scummy stuff?

;)

T

Two reasons my brother: to buy chalices (that's how I learned about hard to get out flavors)

And to sell gently used, respected, super clean mods and attys that only had unflavored nic base run thru em :)

Like I said, there are some clean people and clean mods out there but all you have to do is talk to Rob to learn that there are many people who have nasty, juiced up, funky sticky mods and most of em vape flavored juices :)

i feel the same way about used cars and divorced women!

Every now and then you can snag a real bargain, but auctions like Ebay can be tough-going.

That's when you need your handy checklist:

How much juice has been run thru it - and has it been drilled out?

What's the price v a brand new one or one that has blemishes?

Does it leak or is it the new wife with new contacts (usually insulting friends on Facebook)

I always recommend against buying used REOs. I know, I'm that ahole.
With my luck, that's good advice :p
Actually I don't have to worry about it anymore .. just found out that while I was getting good info from all you good folks, .. the jerk had put it on EBay, and it had already sold :sneaky: plus he had held back the Cyclone, and had sold it separately for $40.

So, now I'm concentrating on why one of my favorite yummy juices tastes like s..t .
I haven't used carto's for a long time, so I bought some from Rob to use on the Reo.

It must be the stuffing in the carto that I'm picking up the flavor from, and if so, they are outta here :(
I was hoping that it would go away with use, but I don't think I can last vaping it until it gets to that point.
Maybe I can find something to flush the new carto's with that will neutralize them, because as it stands, they are ruining good juice .
YUK

Thanks everyone for all the good advice .. even though I didn't get the Reo, I learned a lot .. priceless

I can think of a reason to own those litle cartos.

One is they'll work on anything and all you have to do is throw liquid on them. Are they as good as a rebuildable? hell no - but any port in a storm.

The other is they will prove your 510 connection works and therefore any issue you have is with the topper you use, so you can concentrate your efforts there.

I couldn't stand those filler cartos. that was the first thing I got when I started vapng, didn't really know about anything else.......HATED em!! Can't even begin to describe how much, so I'll spare you lol
Trust me .. no explanation needed :p

That would have to be the storm of the century
I'll drip the juice on my arm and rub it in before I'll vape from those things .. unless I find a way to kill the "stuffing" flavor
Other than that .... I guess your right

I always had a love hate relationship with cartos - I loved to hate them.

Don't know if you've considered this, but you can use bridgeless atties on a reo - Rob even sells some 510 versions. No wicking, no filler, no building. The performance is not on par with, say, a RM2, but it is (IMHO) a step up from cartos.

i used cartos for all of 3 hours. then switched to atties, some from Reosmods, some elsewhere. much better than cartos.

now, i mostly use RDAs but still have a bunch of disposable atties in the mix that i bought before i had eye surgery on both eyes. they ain't an RM2, but much better than cartos

Looks like I'm now a member of that fan club.
I'll just stick with my little RM2 .. unless I can get my paws on an Odin someday

If you know of someone that likes and uses carto's, have them PM me ... I have a few "freebies" for them.

Caught up on this thread and feel I needed to post.

It has been said that buying REO's off the classifieds is a game of chance.

That is true. BUT............Can it be worth it?

I think 85% of my current collection of 51 REO's came from the classifieds or private sales. Why? I was looking for good deals and I was looking for REO's that were collectible. Plain and simple!

You can buy new, and get the latest style and all upgraded from reosmods. If you have the money then maybe that is the best choice and you get brand spanking new.

But buying from another owner can be a great way to save some money or get a REO that is no longer in production. You are putting your trust in what someone says they have in hand. If they are right and it is gently used, working properly, and cleaned well, it might be a great grab.

Out of all of the used REO's I purchased only a handful were not quite what I expected. Most people were honest about the condition and the price reflected that state. If someone vapes a highly flavored juice you can usually tell. But that is fixable. It is something that I expect to linger a bit on a used REO purchase. Replacing the tubing, cap and bottle is always an option that should be figured into the price paid. A little work will remove anything left. With a wood REO the wood itself can retain a odor from juice. You need to realize that is a possibility and also fixable.

Robert makes REO's to last. They are not just use and throw away when we want something else. That idea is insane. A metal REO can be brought back to a new working condition. The finish or body might have flaws but that won't affect how it works. Wood REO's are more challenging but they can be refinished and have all new parts installed too.

Always remember if you buy used that you might have to chuck out a few more bucks to get that REO useable for you. But then again you really might get one that is clean, and in almost new condition.

Know the risks of buying used. Buy smart. Save a little and give a unwanted REO a new chance at showing you it still has a life!

Good words Karen. You said it much more eloquent than I did.

Yes these mods are made to outlast us and can be cleaned right up - but sometimes the dollars one would need to add to make em suitable add up to the cost of a new blem. Sometimes even more.

I'm just thinking of a rebuild kit too. I'd actually figure that in the cost of any used REO just to be safe. Add the cost of a rebuild kit to the sellers price and if its still lower than new, it's a good deal. Assuming the body of the mod isn't beat to shizz, the 510 isn't damaged and the Delrin block screw isn't stripped of course :)

Again, well said Karen :)

I actually told Robert that the resale price of my collection has dropped! When I take into consideration that there are new upgrades to the REO's now, my asking price must reflect that fact. At least that is the way I think and feel.

Frequently when I tell someone what I got for a certain REO I sold they are surprised. Some think I should have asked for a lot more money.

Being fair and honest selling a used REO is more important to me than getting the highest price. It is tougher when selling a collectible. They are often left intact as they were originally built. Sometimes the price asked reflects that point.

I don't like buying used stuff. I dunno, it's just me, but I want any scratches, dings, and dents, to be mine. I've only bought one used mod. The only reason I bought it was because, at the time, a couple years ago, I wanted a 14500 tube mod, and found a MM Teamon that was no longer being made. When I got it, it was nasty. The switch was shot, the 510 and top cap was all gunked up, there was semi dry juice inside the tube, and the copper contacts were black, they hadn't been cleaned in so long. It took considerable work to get it in shape. Never again.

You guys both have really good points, but I think you are more optimistic Karen
Since I'm not a collector, I lean more towards Jims "buying new", unless I really know the seller.
So, I'm cruising Robs site, looking for anything new posted.
Thinking I need to get myself a "mini", with the $$$ I would of spent on the used one.

I don't like buying used stuff. I dunno, it's just me, but I want any scratches, dings, and dents, to be mine.
I'm with you on that point. Need to "personalize" it myself.

I just checked. I was afraid mine was scummy. But it looks as pristine as the day I bought it.
It does smell like sweat socks soaked in maple syrup, though.
