I have a little secret for those of you who are not old ladies, and have thus not yet accumulated your obligatory collection of dusty, broken shoeboxes bulging with things like old bindi cards.

If your grandmama refuses to give you the really good ones from HER old shoebox because "they don't make them like that anymore," she's wrong.

In an offline conversation on this topic, a neighbor showed me some that she had gotten from a little herb store in Kerala, within the last couple of months, that rival, and in some cases, even surpass, some that I bought before she was born.

For about $10 US (shipped) you can get 10 cards, about 60 in all, of the blingiest fanciest, prettiest bindis you or grandmama ever saw, or for the same price, a hundred nose bindis (or 2mm flatback adhesive rhinestones, however you prefer to think of them).

Yes, they have an online store, it's on eBay, and no I do not work for them :) but with my eyes I have seen the bindis, and if there were any way I could justify buying any more of the things, this is where I'd go.

(If you are not accustomed to getting things from India, sometimes things are sent sewn into little cloth sacks instead of envelopes or boxes).

And how are these worn ? Very "pretty" My wife and daughters would love these...not sure they would know how to "use" them. Are they ear rings? Sorry...Im just a big lug...LOL

Correct me anyone if I'm wrong..

These are the Indian jewels worn on the forehead between the eyebrows. My little girl and her friends just adored wearing them. Lots of fun and pretty too

I think the ones that are $9.99 are for a larger number of cards. The ones my neighbor had were just the standard 6 or so to a card, and the price depends on how many cards you buy, I think she got 10 cards for about $6 when you count shipping, but shipping for bindis is never more than a couple of dollars because they don't weigh anything.

Traditionally, yes to adorn people and still are, all over the world, but you can use them to adorn anything, most recently, I've been using my old ones to decorate my electric hookah-doodle, and that was why I posted the link, because I thought people here might have fun doing that too! :)

Oh and thank you VWFringe for putting the pictures, LOL it nver occurred to me to do that.

I went to check on the price thing and it looks like the packs of 20 cards are the higher priced ones, except for one pack of ten that are a little fancier that is a couple of dollars more. I might ask if they are also a bit larger though, because if so they might not be as good for putting on e-cigarettes unless you have those giant ones made out of boxes and things.

The reason I put this here is that especially stores in US I have seen people putting one single bindi like this in a little round container inspired I guess by the ones that hold real gemstone ones from the jewelers, and charging 10 or 12 dollars for them, which is just ridiculous, and the quality - please! don't even let me start! Anyway, these are a good deal.

And sorry I missed the other question, but yes, when you use them to decorate something that is not you or another skin owner, the easiest is to put a little clear nail polish, or if you don't want a glossy finish, you can use satin finish clear acrylic, that Wal Mart has for a couple of dollars, and just put it where you want it and leave it alone for a while, then you can go back and give it a top coat. I do that with e-cigarettes because they are handled so much but if you were decorating your computer monitor or something I wouldn't bother.

I don't know much about polymer clay, were you thinking of using it to make bindis? or decorating items made of it with bindis? I think it would be a little heavy to wear on skin, but you can stick bindis to anything except silicone, to which we can stick nothing, which is why it's silicone. :D
