Hello,

Monday 9 April will be my 1 month off of analogs!! YEAH!! I starting vaping the day I quit and havent had one since. I recently retired from the Navy after 23 years and most of those years smoking.. Back then on base it was 4.00 a CARTON!! but over the years its up to $35 here in Florida.

Since I was 13 I enjoyed running.. Id run a 5k every other day.. then 10Ks and even a few 1/2 marathons all while smoking a pack a day with no real breathing issues.

Back in Dec I pulled a knee muscle and did not run until a week ago taking it slowly.

I have noticed since I have not smoked in a month and running now (not to sound gross HAHA) but I am spitting up all kinds of phelm (like 30-40 times) when I was finished and my throat was raw.

I know that when you quit analogs you will expel more nasties than you did before.. Also, I aware that I have not put my lungs through the paces since I have not used them running in months.. Nothing weird like blood just lots of goo...

I just would like some support that this is somewhat normal. I am confidient that once I slowly work back in to running my normal paces this will slow down. Just want to put it up here for other comments.

thanks D.

Like tmcase says - this is normal....

How does Smoking Affect the Cilia? (with pictures)

"Cilia are tiny hair-like organelles that reside on the surface of cells. In the human body, many are found on cells where they sweep debris away from the lungs and nasal cavities."

"The most common reason to suffer damaged or paralyzed cilia, ... is smoking. "

"Remarkably though, stopping smoking can undo the damage to cilia rather quickly. In fact, they begin to repair themselves and regenerate in number within only three days after quitting. It should be noted that coughing is a common side effect to this process and may last from a few days to several weeks. This is because the restored cilia are working overtime to remove impurities and mucous from the lungs. If cough persists for more than eight weeks, however, a medical professional should be consulted."

This, btw, is the reason why some smokers cough in the morning. The 8 or so hours of non-smoking during sleep and the cilia begin to 'rehabilitate' - hence the mucus in the morning....

However, should your condition not improve soon, or if you notice even a speck of blood, or pain, please contact your physician. We are not really equipped to diagnose or treat any medical condition--we're just fellow vapers. Our lungs have been damaged by years of smoking; have yours checked--just to be sure everything is OK.

Thank you for your service.

Hey there, I'm glad to see a fellow vaper who runs. There are not too many of us. Like you, I ran even while smoking. And also like you I went through a hacking up phlegm phase. You are only at a month so hang in there. I want to say mine carried on for six weeks. It's just part of the normal part of the lungs clearing themselves of poison and gunk.

Here's a tip for you though. I don't vape 30 minutes before a run. It may be the PG or whatever, but I find I just run better if I avoid vaping for a half hour. Try it out. Also, when I'm done I don't really vape right after. I actually don't want to until my breathing and heart rate returns to normal so give yourself a bit of time.
