Battery-operated cigarettes don't violate smoking ban, Cuccinelli says

All good, except for the junk from the American Cancer Society.

The opinion was requested by Del. Chris Peace (R-Hanover), who said a constituent called him after she was told by the Virginia Department of Health that the devices do violate the state's smoking ban.

"Common sense tells you that if the purpose of the smoking ban was to create a healthier atmosphere and reduce the individual emissions in a defined space, if you will, with second hand smoke, the e-cigarettes doesn't seem to fit any of those parameters," Peace said.

But the American Cancer Society does not agree. The group has been pushing the Federal Drug Administration to regulate e-cigarettes. A spokesman said it believes the devices were created to get around smoking bans and violate the spirit of smoking bans.

"Allowing them would really be turning back the clock on what we're trying to do in Virginia to create smoke-free workplaces and environments that promote health," said American Cancer Society spokesman Keenan Caldwell.

Kudos to Storyspinr for staying on top of this and taking it across the finish line to victory!

Good news, yes, but the Cancer society is wrong, and thanks for posting.
Anyway, I don't vape in inappropriate places and times, so I can say the Cancer society is full of garbage and I will never donate to them or the ALA, I hope no one does. I don't see Virginia lawyers, judges, teachers, nurses, etc. vaping inappropriately, and some even used to be pipe smokers.

Again, massive kudos to storyspinr, who single-handedly followed up on this and got the ruling from the AG.

Just goes to show that if one person can get a positive result like this, all of us working together must be able to achieve great things.

Ditto.

If Storyspinr shows up to Midwest Vapefest, my guess is folks will be lining up to buy her a beer. I know I'll be at the front of the line. ;)

The reporter showed up on time. I have no idea what I said 'cause I was nervous, lol. Worse, he didn't really ask questions, just let me ramble on...which is always dangerous. They did get footage of me using it to show the vapor (I deliberately used a blue DSE901 since it DOESN'T "look like a cigarette"), and the parts of the e cig. I tried to distract them by showing them our German Shepherds and Miniature Horses, but it didn't work. They still wanted the interview. I make no promises since I could win an ugly award, but at least the reporter acted genuinely interested.

Fantastic JOB Storyspinr!!! And thanks so much for your courage and dedication - we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude. And by the way, you looked great, very reasoned and you appeared and sounded sure of yourself and very convincing - just the kind of story that hopefully will reach people. Leave the "ugly" word to those with truly "ugly" agendas - you're beautiful!
