Hi everyone! New member here not entirely new to vaping but just received a setup from my kids and thought I would post my experience.

I am using the mini vivi nova (tried all 3 heads) on an Ego-C Twist as my main battery and also have the Ego-T Upgrade as a smaller backup. The novas are really nice and easy to use and clean, but I was having issues vaping. I would have to twist it to try to help the wick do its job by letting gravity bring the juice into the head and could not increase the wattage too high or it would cause dry hits or start to burn. Or more exactly, it was more like a combination of the two.

The experience was similar across all three heads (1.8, 2.4 and 2.8 ohm) so I even tried cleaning them, including dry firing (which I believe to be unnecessary unless its been used heavily/has gunk built up) and ended up using the 2.8 ohm head because of the fact it has a larger wick and figured the higher ohms would be less chance of getting too much wattage.

So what I did was to remove one of the silicone caps from the other heads and cut very small "v" shaped notches on each side right where the wicks are. I made them small as possible to minimize flooding/losing juice unnecessarily. This has helped enormously. I can now chain vape as much as I like without any burning or dry hits.

This is my first setup and I just got it yesterday and glad I heard of other users doing similar things to get them going. My only other experience has been with the gas station NJoys then went to a NicStick, neither was that pleasant of an experience. I just ordered more juice, the adapter sleeve and a Kanger T2 from Mt Baker Vapors with free shipping. Coupon code freeshipping.

Smoked my last analog earlier today and have no urge for any more. Best birthday gift ever!

Update:

For those thinking of cutting these silicone caps, proceed with caution. While my cuts were shallow enough to still sit on top of the thicker wicks on my 2.8 ohm heads, the smaller wicks on the other two allow flooding of the head with these cuts while is is laying on its side. Do not cut all your caps and only make them small as possible on the thinner wicks. You can twist the caps where the cuts do not line up with the wicks if you run into problems.

welcome to the fog,
i heard of people doing that too, but i haven't tried it yet.
mine have a large single wick instead of the 4.
it seems to help on wicking too.
post pics of what you did.

Be darned if I can find the video now (probably just tired) but PBusardo has a video on the Vivi (yeah I know not a mini) and at the end he shows how he rebuilds them. He notches that little cap like that and explains why. Maybe that would give you the visuals you need?

Well so far I've only done it on one to make sure it would work as expected. I am currently chain vaping from it but I will see what sort of pics I can get once the tank empties!

Edit: the other two heads do have 4 wicks (1.8 and 2.4 ohm). I just used one of the silicone caps from them to cut and swap without a thorough cleaning.

That's the exact vid I watched earlier and helped me be sure I wanted to try it. Looked like his were sort of large though. My notches are maybe as high as a penny laying flat on a table. <1mm

welcome and congrats on quitting. I have been rocking vivis on and off for a while now and other than muted flavor I have had virtually no problems. I have haven't had to modify the silicone boots but if I do have an issue in the future I will keep your suggestion in mind. I bought another vivi yesterday from my local brick and mortar and put a about two drops of root beer juice on the wicks and it slightly cracked my tank. thinking about ordering the aluminum tank to replace it but I am a little concerned about vaping an aluminum tank. Haven't seen too much in the threads on this, pennies for thoughts?

i would get a number of burns using mine, twisting, rolling, topping the tank.
right now i'm using kanger protanks and they work pretty well.
they hit good at any angle.

I wanted to get the protank just couldn't afford it ATM. The reviews on the T2's from mt baker vapors was really good and only like $4 and change. The heads were only like $6 or $7 bucks too and supposed to be rebuildable similar to the novas. Next order will be wicks and wire along with my juice ;-)

Yeah if your juice is damaging tanks, go with a metal or a pyrex like the protank. I thought the newer vivis had a newer resistant tank but I could be wrong.

Congrat's on your new "hobby" and welcome
The first month or so is fun ... body getting rid of cig buildup and gunk.
Had a sore throat for a few days, but it went away
Taste buds coming back is fun too. Sometimes you wish you didn't have the sense of smell back !
Your tastes in juices may change... you like it now, but not later...or thought it tasted terrible, so threw it in a box and forgot it....but was running low and had to vape it, wow it's good now !
I guess you've heard about "steeping". Fruits are good fresh but tobacco's need a month or so.
Kinda like chili is better the next day (or week) Some juices are the same.
Don't throw any away until they've been around a LONG time and still taste yucky.
I've trimmed on the caps a little bit too, to free up the wick.
Some of my home recoiled wicks are a little thicker than the silica.
I never dry burn because I always ruin it. Just me I guess.
I just rinse them and then let them dry overnight, or gently paper towel dry and refill.
I've got one of those el-cheapo sonic jewelry cleaners, and it works pretty good.
I have always kept extra coil heads around. When the ones I'm using get gunked up, I throw them in a jar with everclear to soak.
When I get a few, I put them in the jewelry cleaner for a few rounds, set them out to dry and they come out pretty good.

I ordered "sample" packs of flavors to start with.
I didn't know if I would like it or how much my taste buds coming back would change the way it tasted later.
Besides I could get a lot more flavors to test without spending so much $$$.
Enjoy, you'll have fun with it, and you'll really enjoy breathing again.

On a side note, the PG/VG ratio may have something to do with how it was performing prior to my mod. As it was a gift, I do not know the ratio of my juice. I want something to produce a lot of vapor like a drip but didn't want to try 100% VG so the juice I ordered was 50ml 50/50 fruit stripe flavored with one extra shot 24mg nicotine. I will leave a review on the juice and the Kanger T2's once they come in.
