I had been working on my early model ViVi Nova for a few days before I started following this thread. I was able to make considerable improvement but couldn't understand why my re-coiled/wicked had great flavor but my Nova did not. The hot legs and rubber insulator thread really got me thinking so I cannibalized a CE2 xxl so as to get the coil with the non resistor attached. I also used the glass type wick from the CE2. Also I pluged one of the air holes. Well any way I got 2.9 ohms, great flavor, good vapor but was getting dry hits after a while. The wicks were a little thicker so I trimmed tiny bit from silicone piece as to not strangle wicks and it now works pretty darn good all the way around. using 80/20. I think I my buy one of the 2.5 heads to try.
I just followed some of the suggestions that you guys made and it worked pretty good for me, thanks:):)
OOPS, well I still wasn't satisfied as I am comparing my Nova to a couple Stardusts that I re-wicked and coiled.
This time I took a Dremel and cut the slots where to wicks go to about 1/8 in wide and put a 4.5 ohm coil on 5 silica wicks. short wicks, 80pg/20vg on v1 Vmax @5volts I believe I am done but still testing

Yeah, I'm not too keen on JB Weld. My cinnamon liquid literally ate through it after I used it to seal the posts in a Genesis Mini. I had JB Weld floating around in my tank on the third day. Silicon worked on it and is holding up, but I'm just not too sure on it having to endure the heat output of a coil in the nova...

I fell behind in this tread... in case you haven't found anything yet - Dow Corning 732 should stand up to 450F - FDA and yada, yada, etc. probably wouldn't work right next to the coil, but seems to do fine in near proximity.

I'm really just commenting to have this on what's new tab, commented threads etc. I have been rebuilding coils lately and will be getting the proper wire in tomorrow or tuesday. I have 30g and 32g ni-chrome wire coming in. In the morning I'm hitting up my local craft store for some cotton wick to boil. I need to find some NR wire for the future but, for now, I am doing fine with 36g kanthal and silica wick. From what I've read, the cotton and thicker wire will make this nova great for me.

Edit: Got my new wire and some 100% cotton crochet thread to use as a wick. Awesome! 32g wire works like a charm! I used 16 strands for the wick and just twisted them together. Wicks too well... I'm going to braid the threads and see how that turns out.

Can you explain what you mean by wicks to well?

I can't speak for Deadguy but in my case if I use the #4 cotton yarn it wicks to well too. I have learned to only use 2 of the 4 strands to keep it from flooding the coil. It is just a taste thing the menthol kicks better if the coil is a wee bit dryer.

It floods a little, even when standing upright and the juice is below the slots. I upped to to 20 strands of thread and it seems to have helped. My thinking is that the little rubber cap squishes the threads down a bit in the slots stopping the extra seepage. I got one coil at 1.9 ohms and one at 2 ohms. Perfect around 4V. Chain vaping, no dry hits. 50/50 juice.

Bourbonman, I'll get pics on my next coil build. I have some new juice coming in and want a clean coil for that anyway so, soon.

After pulling apart a Smoktech DC cartomizer and seeing the upper coil diaper burnt and the bottom one in good condition on this very used 1.5 DC a am going to make the punch that I saw on you tube vid from one of the vendors where you mount the saddle valve on a block of 2X4 with a goove in it to position carto. I want to put upper hole as suggested by VAPN350. Also I want to mention about do not try to blow out juice from over saturated carto when it is in tank of juice wrap it in paper towel and swing/fling it out I learn that on ECF here some where but would have been good if I would have "got it" sooner. Just want to pass this on for who ever wants/doesn't know.

EDIT: I accidentally posted this here, supposed to have been in Vmax owners tips, ect
sorry

I work nights:toast: so it is now my night, I gotta see if this Nova will pass beer test by filling Nova and filling glass, I wonder which one one will be empty first . It is going to be close I'll bet

edit: Nova won, beer glass disqualified for jumping the gun, oh well I"ll just have to try again later

Anyone know of you can rewick and recoil with nichrome wire? I can't seem to find anyone that has kanthal a-1. No one on eBay has it.
I found 100ft of 32 gauge nichrome for $9 with shipping

Nichrome works just fine - it's not as robust, so it's more susceptible to blowing. Some don't like it because of the chemical composition, but it's better than analogs.
