You have any idea of where to get kanthal a wire

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

No one I usually buy from stateside is listing any - I'd go with nichrome for the time being... but there may be something new in the future. MicroCig has announced that they are moving to Titanium coils... Now where are we going to find that?

Got 75' of 32ga grade 5 titanium wire coming for $7.50USD, that was had to find.

Gee I wonder if I could just turn some off that rod?

And:
I can just see some modder taking a bag full of bad coil down to the recyclers to sell them as titanium scraps.

Okay now I'm MAD!!!!

I just finished rebuilding the cheapie Vivi Nova I picked up at Madvapes for $12 and it's vaping as well as the Penelope I got Monday at 10 times the price! That really ticks me off!!! :D

Actually, I don't see being able to rebuild one of these indefinitely and that plastic tank isn't going to hold up the way the Penelope will but, for the money... I can easily see keeping this with me as a spare in case I fry the coil in the Penelope at work. I made the coil out of 32ga kanthal and the legs from 30ga .999 silver. I think this one is a V2. It has an insulator inside the tube that looks like a soda straw. I did manage to reuse it.

I did have one thing that happened that I can't explain. I had it part way together without the tank or that top that goes over the coil and I drip some juice on the coil. Then I tried to fire it on the Buzz Pro. The Buzz acted like it does when it sees a short but, it ohmed at 1.9. I tried again but, got the same result. So, I put it on the Bolt, went outside in case I needed to drop it and gave the button a quick press. It fired fine. After that, it fired on the Buzz Pro and it still is. I guess the Bolt talked the Buzz into it. I don't know..

After I put it together, it didn't seem to be wicking very well. So, I put a little straight into the top. Now it's wicking fine. I'll probably vape it the rest of the night just to be certain that it's going to work, empty it and throw it in my laptop case as a spare but, I can't fault the way this thing is working at all.

Would titanium be a good choice to use as a coil?got this from wikipedia i know we don't use powder or shavings, but it still a scary though. As a powder or in the form of metal shavings, titanium metal poses a significant fire hazard and, when heated in air, an explosion hazard. Water and carbon dioxide–based methods to extinguish fires are ineffective on burning titanium; Class D dry powder fire fighting agents must be used instead.

Titanium coils are already on the way (July 2012). Evidently there is a Europen regulation that requires the change to make coils safer by 2013. Titanium meets those requirements. As to what grade is being used, it is only stated that it is 'Pure' so it's Grade 1-4, which indicates the tensile strength. Here's the MiT link that was previously posted.

25' roll - 32ga - Grade 5 Titanium, scroll down about 3/4 of the page. someone order it and let us know if its the right stuff :)

Here

I've searched 3 times and couldn't find it - do you know what the resistance is?

Thanks hdzrtvap,

I was on that site and missed it!

Not sure about the Grade 5... it's alloyed with abt 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium. It has a much higher tensile strength, but I'm not sure that will help us. I think MiT is going 'Pure' due to the new regs. I decided to stop my order from Ring Lord for the higher grades and $5 order and $12 s/h... gotta be a better source.

I haven't been able to find a source for small quantities for grades 1-4 yet. I've also been looking for resistivity, but haven't found that for wire by guage.

First things first... https://www.google.com/webhp?rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS490US490&sourceid=chrome-instant&ie=UTF-8&ion=1#q=kanthal+wire&hl=en&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS490US490&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ei=YQwEUJugKqjp6wGG37HgBg&sqi=2&ved=0CEoQ_AUoBQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=e2f006120dcaafa2&biw=1920&bih=955&ion=1

It's like asking if it's raining before you look out the window...

Secondly, NOTE: KANATHAL & NICHROME Wire can be used interchangeably - "Kanthal" being the Brand Name of the Nichrome Wire produced from one manufacturer.

Why do people have a hard time finding this stuff? I had a bit of trouble figuring out exactly what gauge to get at first but... Just googled it and got 32g and 30g.

Now titanium heating wire is a bit harder to find, still just searched a bit on google and, what do you know? Found it http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/484683581/gr2_thermal_resistance_titanium_wire.html?s=p. I'm not getting any as the NiChrome works great for me.

I followed your search link, but don't see any 32ga kanthal. I think they were looking for kanthal due to the different properties - I keep nichrome for backup... but use kanthal when I have it. Some people have a problem with the nickel in the NiCr - others just like the higher max operating temp of the FrCrAl kanthal.

Look beyond the first page of links and you will find multiple vendors that have 32g. All I'm trying to say is that you don't need to wait for the guy on ebay to get it in stock. Just google it and order it... It's a lot easier than people make it out to be. I was convinced the stuff was hard to come by when I searched on this forum because people were waiting for some dude on ebay to post his auctions. It is very common and easy to find.
