Vivi nova rewicking problem

Hi there, I saw your forum while looking round for some help which I was unable to find so I thought one of you might help me
Basically... I've never done any rewicking before and I'm trying to rewick a vivi nova 2.5 with 30swg nichrome wire i've rapped it round the wick between 5 and even 12 times, but when tested on the lava tube it gives a reading of 0.4 amp highest i've managed to get is 0.8 its really bugging me hah. Thanks a million in advance!

You mean re-coiling and re-wicking - I was doing the same earlier with a CE2 - same problem - coils were touching - did u check that?

Yeah the coils definitely weren't touching, I really can't think what else I can be doing wrong but there must be something?

I use Kanthal 33 - not sure what else it could be - some expert should chime in soon,

I've been rebulding my heads for vivi 2.5 with no probs so far. Cheesecloth and 32awg kanthal. I do 5 wraps for about 2~ resistance. Just make sure the coils don't touch at the bottom of the wick. They usually touch there as the wick bows when you tuck them in the head. That's all I really look for unless I use SS.

Thank you for your help I think maybe its because I'm using 30 awg? Could be too big? I'll keep trying and maybe order some thinner wire.

Looks like that wire has a resistance of 4.15 ohms per foot or about .34 per inch. You are only using about 2 inches of wire per head so around .7 ohms. If you get the 32awg kanthal a 5 wrap wick should produce about 2 ohms. I think its resistance is around .8 ohms per inch. Here's a link to my source if you would like to check it out.
