I just got a Vmod XL. I started off with the included cartomizer. Great! Huge clouds, decent taste, very easy to use after just a few minutes of playing with it.

I then tried the included Vapage atomizer. Totally different experience, and not for the better. Very harsh hits. And I mean harsh! No matter how I fiddled with it, I can’t get it to produce anything other than a lung searing hit.

It was rated as 2 ohms. Checked it on a multimeter and it comes to 1.93.

So, my question is: should I return the unopened pack of 2 extra atomizers I purchased? They are also 2 ohm. Is this typical behavior of the atomizers or did I just get a funky one in the kit? Or perhaps I’m not using it correctly? I feeding it just like the cartomizer, and that’s working great, so I don’t think it’s a technique problem, but certainly open to that possibility.

I’m tempted to open the pack and try another one, but that means I can’t return it. Ideas?

Tip it over and squeeze, then hold it upright and squeeze again. This will push some juice from the juice reservoir into the atty. Then dry pull (don't fire the button) and make sure there's liquid gurgling in the atty. THEN fire it and give it short quick pulls till it cools enough to take longer drags.

This thing takes some playing with to get the most from. I've come to really like those 2.0 atties after some ups and downs getting 'em figured out. Hope you do too!

Don't worry about leakage.... Mine has never leaked. That problem was fixed by Vapage well over a year ago. The atty's need to be wet all the time. A good test to see if they are working for you would be to drip 4-5 drops of liquid directly into the atty and vape. If you still get an inconsistent vape, I would say there might be something wrong with them. If not, then you know it is a feeding problem and just need to work on that. If you ever do flood it though, keep in mind that a gentle squeeze in the upright position will send the excess liquid back down to the bottle. There are a lot of people that like the Vapage atty's. I personally don't care for them. I have a few that are now collecting dust in the vape box. They have been relegated to back up status for now. I vape Cisco spec LR306 atty's full time. They are a lot easier to work with on my XL. The consistency of vape is like night and day between the two. Congrats and good luck with your XL though. You might want to check out this thread, it has a lot of information on the XL and could be beneficial to you as well.... Happy vaping....

Thanks! I tried direct dripping and it still is way more inconsistent than I'm willing to deal with. Either the one I'm using is funky, or the Vapage atties are just not a good fit for me.

Appreciate the link to the thread -- I think that's the one I've been slowly going through. Lots of great info -- went through some of it while thinking about the purchase. Now that I have one, it's worth another pass or two since the info is clicking a lot more now that I have (albeit limited) hands-on experience.

Vapage came out with a improved version of there atomizers not to long ago (pro spec slant coils) but the kits I believe come with the old versions. I had issues with the old version couldn't keep them wet enough. The new ones have a lot more wraps of the coil the old ones have only three. The ones you bought in addition to the kit would be pro spec there's a huge improvement in the new ones.

Don't give up on the Vapage atties. They're the best I've used for NE tobaccos, and they're built to avoid flooding in the VMod. That said, I did get a bad one in my last order, and those Cisco 306's (and his 510's too) are also great. Get them at Avid Vaper : Personal Vaporizers and Accessories. The Empire Mods atomizers are also excellent.

Well, I’ve thrown in the towel with regard to the Vapage atomizer. Despite several hours of trying various techniques, it never produced a consistently decent vape. I’ve sent back the 2-pack I bought with the XL in the hopes that I can get some measure of store credit (not holding my breath on that – Vapage customer service has not been easy to deal with).

I’m going to try some of the atomizers that have been recommended in this thread (thanks!). In the meantime, I tried some Boge cartomizers with limited results. Hard to get them to fire at all even after following the tips and tricks in the other Vmod threads.

I’ve had much better results with some Kanger dual coil 1.5 ohm cartomizers I had. Much better vapor production than the Vapage cartomizer, nice flavor (a bit muted, but still good) and nice draw. They will easily hold me over until a better atomizer comes in the mail.

I just received my vmod2 and had the same problem. What I did was remove the atomizer and look at the bottom where you will see small slits where the juice enters the atomizer. I then took a razor blade and made sure that nothing was obstructing the juice from entering the atty. I slipped the edge in the slits and it worked like a charm. Must be something on manufacturing that causes them not to have clean cuts. Now I do it with all of my attys and cartos. Give it a shot. It worked great for me.
