Voopoo celebrates their 8th Anniversary with a brand-new look and design, including a renewed website and a refreshed visual identity that reflect Passion, Vitality, and Breakthrough. The signature lemon yellow has been refined into a warmer, more vibrant and energetic shade. VOOPOO has released three revitalised devices which already feature their brand-new packaging design, incorporating the new brand color scheme and their professional vision.
I left the best one as last: the new VOOPOO DRAG X3, the DRAG S3’s bigger sibling that operates with an external single battery.
The DRAG X3 is capable to deliver 80 Watts of max power with a single battery (18650/21700) and is designed with a sophisticated combination of leather and metallic colors for an extravagant premium look. The device boosts a full sized 1.65-inch cristal clear HD touch screen and a brand new intelligent capacitive unlock sensor; a similar experience as unlocking and operating a smartphone. This genuine pod-mod supports the well-established PnP X Pod platform that is compatible with the whole palette of PnP X coils for outstanding RDL/DTL experience and even MTL, with the dedicated MTL pod.
Design & functionality:
I received the device in Moss Green and there are a total of 7 colors available (Gray Metal, Spray Black, Glow Pink, Champagne Golden, Sky Blue, Moss Green, Aurora Purple). I was blown away by the design: the quality leather material, the touchscreen and the metal painting make this pod-mod a true artwork; the device is exceptionally elegant and eye-catching. Voopoo used fine genuine leather with a quilted pattern, a small embossed DRAG X3 emblem at the side and at the back a crocodile leather looking insert enriched with needlework were used to compliment this genius artwork.
The DRAG X3 features an advanced Capacitive Touch Activation unlocking system. This innovative technology responds exclusively to your fingers, ignoring objects like keys or fabric, preventing any unintentional firing while in your pocket or bag. A light touch on the fire button unlocks the device, and it auto-locks immediately when released to prevent accidental activation. In addition, the device can be locked by double pressing the fire button.
The DRAG X3 boosts an ultra-HD big sized 1.65-inch touchscreen that shows all essential vaping information: current mode, wattage, resistance, puff counter, battery percentage and puff duration are displayed on the vivid and colorful user interface. When the device is locked a very handy timepiece is displayed. You can unlock the device by sliding your finger upside on the screen, similarly as on a smartphone. The menu is accessed with a slide downwards. There are 3 modes to choose from: Smart, RBA and Eco modes. Smart mode offers you automatically the best wattage and limits the maximum power that is advised for your coil, while in RBA mode you can boosts up to the maximum 80 W performance. Eco mode optimises power consumption in low voltage levels. There are three stylish themes and three animations to choose from, the animation can be turned off. There is a separate menu option for your locking preferences: capacitive and/or manual unlocking and continues unlock can be selected here. There is a puff counter reset and a menu option where you can set the time. When the battery is disconnected the time will need to be readjusted. Wattage can be set from the home screen by long pressing the current wattage, a moving counter will appear that you can roll upwards or downwards with your finger to adjust the wattage, the counter does do round-robin. The device can be turned off/on with five clicks.
Battery performance:
The device operates with one singe external battery and supports 2A fast charging, it takes either 18650 or 21700 batteries that will need to be bought separately. The charging time depends on your battery’s capacity. My 18650 type 2500 mAh and 30A battery takes about 1.5 hrs to charge. For the 18650 batteries a plastic adaptor is included and the battery can be fitted through a handy sliding system that is released with a push button. The current battery level and the remaining time are shown on the screen while charging and a chic animation is displayed during the process. The USB-C port is located at the front, so the device can be charged comfortably in a standing position and allows you to vape while plugged in.
Size and weight:
132.7*34.2*27.8mm (pod included). Made of zinc alloy and leather. The DRAG X3 is slightly longer and weightier than the DRAG S3 because of the external battery, although in exchange you can still carry a 80 W cloud beast with you comfortably as it is smaller than a traditional mod & tank combination, compared to the DRAG M100s as example.
Pod/cartridge:
The DRAG X3 comes with Voopoo’s well-established replaceable PnP X MTL pod with a 0.3 & 0.15Ω mesh coil and the device is compatible with the whole palette of PnP X coils (0.15 - 1.0 Ω) and disposable PnP X pods with built in coils for outstanding RDL/DTL and MTL vaping. The upper airflow adjuster on the pod allows you to open or restrict the nearly 1 cm wide airflow holes at both sides. The tank has a genuine 5 ml e-liquid capacity, bottom filling with a comfortably wide filling hole that is covered by a rubber plug. The kit comes with the DTL pod, for MTL vaping the dedicated PnP X MTL pod tank is advised, which is fortunately also compatible with the DRAG X3 and can be bought separately. The drip tip is 810 treaded - you can replace it with your own signature drip tip for making the appearance even more personalised.
I achieved best results for an authentic RDL vape with the 0.3-ohm coil at 35 W in Smart mode with airflow 2/3 opened – the vapor is pleasantly warm and provides a rich, dense and flavorful experience with a huge throat hit. The 0.15-ohm coil is perfect for DTL vaping at higher wattage levels.
During the two weeks testing I refilled the pod multiple times and it tastes and performs still as new, without any leaks observed. Voopoo promotes a 100 ml lifetime for the PnP X coils, their longevity is exceptional and I can confirm on that. I tested the 0.3-ohm coil with a color matching apple pie flavor at 8 mg and the flavor profile is beautiful and very rich, overfilling my lungs with a pleasantly warm sensation of a real apple pie.
Final verdict:
The DRAG X3 is a premium and extravagant high-level device with outstanding performance. It is equipped with a vivid HD touchscreen and a well-developed user interface. The leather design is very elegant and dedicated DTL and MTL pods are available with a wide variety of replaceable coils for your taste, and the plus: the replaceable drip tips. I am thankful to Voopoo that I had the chance testing both the X3 and the S3 before their release. If no more new devices would be manufactured anymore for some reason, I would be completely settled with these two devices.
This time I cannot mention any cons – the X3 is perfection to the very details and the watch on the screen is a non plus ultra!
I would wish I could afford these matching green leather shoes!
