Cleaning question for all you wood veterans. I recently had to run my Grand under hot running water to clean out the catch cup and connector. It was firing strangely but is working perfectly after the bath. Now since the 510 connector is the same (I think?) on the VV's and all the woods for that matter, how would you go about doing the same type of maintenance? I can imagine Rob would not condone plunging our VV's under water, right? And, I can assume that the same level of crud will eventually build up at the connector. So if/when it does, how should I get it clean without frying all the electro bits?

unsure

I would fill the bottle with lemon juice and and squirt it through with the vv woodvil upside down over the sink so I wouldn't get the lemon juice on my pretty finish

I use a Q-tip with a my cleaner for the outside and a syringe......Btw Kim congrats makiing it thru yet another round. Im pulling for ya! ;)

All my brass catch cups have tarnished at first. Not a green but a charcoal black color. I assume its my juice that I use. It goes on for a couple months while I clean it and it comes back. Eventually it has quit on every one thats a few months old or older so I assume my VV will quit tarnishing in another month or so.

I've always believed that the brass affects the taste for the first couple of months too until my favorite flavors impregnate the brass. But it also takes a few months to get the finish taste out as well for me. Either way every wood REO i have has taken a few months to reach peak taste.

The two I always have boba's in ( I know your a fan) actually turn bright yellow after the first few months. Not a brass yellow but a really bright color of yellow. Once that happens I know I'm in good shape from then on. The yellow is only on the bottom and slightly up the side where juice tends to sit more often than not.

Mine hasn't tarnished yet but if it does what can I use to clean it and make it sparkle again?
EDIT: Stepped away and came back and typed that question. Didn't see that everyone was already answering that

This is what Alice posted the other day...

Some people have asked how to clean catch-cup of WOOD mods protecting the wood. I stick their wing-wangs through the wire mesh, with or without tube bottle cap on. I then scrub with humming bird feeder brush or DT brush with warmed 90% isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol warmed in pyrex measuring cup, in microwave, in 5 second burst till hot, but not too hot to touch. BE REALLY CAREFUL HEATING ALCOHOL IN MICROWAVE. IT CAN FLASH. You can use colander or whatever else the tube will fit through.

You can flush the tube with or without pressure using syringe.

Rewax after.

BTW... Those are two Walnuts and two Curly Oaks. Three 510 connectors and one 801 connector.
