+100 on wizard labs, also their cs is really great, my first order with them I had also ordered some flavorings from them, one of them wasn't what I had ordered, emailed him. He replied within an hour and got the right one sent very quickly.

Not to mention the samples are nice to get :)

Is the kit I mentioned above worth getting or go and buy individual stuff ?

To be honest, I can't comment on kit buying since I've never purchased one. I know that some people buy them and are very pleased. However, I DIY and I don't think that I personally would use all the things included in the kits. (I bought a bunch of pipettes when I started DIY and I've never used them.) The only things I use on a regular basis (other than flavors, nic, and VG) are glass dropper bottles (you'll want LOTS of those! Or plastic if you prefer that.) and syringes for measuring. Anything else that I use are things that I already have around the house. There are times when I wish I had a few graduated cylinders for measuring, so I may end up getting some eventually, but I don't find them necessary.

this is true! Just recently placed an order online. The next day I had a few questions and John talked to me for a bit then he called me back as he assembled my order to make sure we had everything needed. He even made suggestions and made sure we had all the appropriate equipment! Best customer service ever! Also, I ordered on a Tuesday(i believe) and it was on my doorstep Saturday. He is very nice and willing to talk you through the process.

This!

Just buy individual items. It really doesn't take all that much as far as supplies for DIY. Get a bottle of VG, PG or both (depending on your preference), some nicotine (I recommend 100mg/ml for cost), a few syringes, a mixing container and some bottles to store your finished product. That's about it!

I've never even looked at any DIY kits but I would assume that they would end up costing more in the long run than just getting the supplies you need. Wizard Labs is great for your nicotine...best prices I've found! Glycerin and PG is cheap if you do some shopping around online (I've found it as low as $14/gallon), or you can pay a little more by buying VG at the pharmacy. PG is a little more difficult to find but any place that sells soap making supplies will carry it. Or you can just get everything you need from Wizard Labs or Best Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - MyFreedomSmokes.com.

The best recommendations I can give for tools is to make sure you get at least one 3ml syringe and one 10ml syringe. The 3ml ones have lines for each 1/10th ml...which is really nice...so having one makes things really easy. When I ordered my first DIY stuff I got my nicotine from Best Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - MyFreedomSmokes.com and they sent me a 30ml beaker for mixing as a courtesy..they also sent a pipette which is nice for VG because it's thick and therefore hard to get through a syringe needle.

Another place to check for mixing tools is Amazon.com. I just ordered a set of beakers (which I'll never use more than the 50ml one) and a 10ml Graduated Cylinder (which is REALLY nice to have), all for around $10 or less.

DIY can be really cheap and I think it becomes even cheaper, over the long haul, when buying supplies individually.

Hey, don't mean to hijack the thread, but, since we're on the topic of equipment.

Would this be an acceptable first order to get started?

Along with the ethyl maltol, I got 8 flavors to get started.

Good? No?

Levitas,

Looks like a decent order to me. A couple things (personal opinion) though, 25 pipettes is going overboard...assuming you will be using syringes. If you plan to mix using drops then maybe it's OK. Although at 12 cents each it's a non-issue. I would also suggest going with either 100mg/ml nicotine as long as you feel safe using it...just as a cost issue. It's going to be cheaper to get higher strength nic in the long run and using a good e-liquid calculator will help to get it diluted to the level you want no matter the original strength.

I also would recommend getting as much nicotine as you can afford. I bought 120ml my first run and it went incredibly fast...much faster than I expected. Also wouldn't hurt to get more glycerin...you will end up using it all eventually anyway so why not get as much as you can afford at once to save money?

But...ya, that looks pretty good. It's about what I bought my first time around (although I got 500ml of both glycerin and PG).

Thanks Smokin, some follow-up questions:

I didn't really want to go too high on the nic-base my first run. I might regret it cost-wise, but, I am just trying the whole DIY thing out. If it doesn't work out, I won't feel like I went too overboard and lost too much money :D That's also why I only got 250mls of straight VG (no PG for me, I know that some of the flavorings will have PG, and I think it'll be okay, just as long as I don't over do it).

I hadn't thought of using syringes to mix, note that I only got 10ml bottles. Wouldn't pipettes be adequate for such low amount of mixing? Also, one cannot mix the solution in the bottle itself and shake the contents? Or is it better to premix in another container then transfer to a bottle? I do have some syringes already, and a few extra bottles from pre-made juices.

Thanks again!

The easiest way I've found is to mix a large amount of base. I use Capellas consistently at 20% flavoring. So, for a 10ml batch use a 10ml syringe. Fill the syringe with 2ml flavoring, then add 8ml of base, squirt gently into bottle. You're done...easy peasy.
