Hello to everyone. I have recently decided to give vaping a try and I have literally spent hours perusing the forums, reading the guides, looking at different companies, etc. and I am still a bit confused lol
First the basics of what I'm looking for:
1.) Ease of use. I want something that (at least to begin with) will be easy to use.
2.) I definitely want something that's going to give me a good throat hit as that's kind of what smoking does for us right? lol
3.) Something that's going to last longer than a few puffs before I have to put it back on a charger.
4.) Price is a slight factor as well. It doesn't really serve quite as much good if i'm spending MORE in this than what i costs me to smoke regularly.

Ok with that said I smoke about a pack a day, my brand and flavor of choice is Marlboro Full Flavor Shorts. I see all these posts about juice and dipping and dripping and cartridges, and atomizers, and batteries, and it gets a little overwhelming lol. I definitely want something that is going to last me for a while and still allow me to delve deeper into the whole DiY aspect of this once I get a little more comfortable with how to do things.

So I guess I'm asking for some overall insight into where I might want to start and a good company to do business with. I know this is a bit lengthy but I wanted to be as thorough as I possibly could with what I'm looking for and wanting at least as a starting point. Also what are good order amounts for things like the cartridges? I mean how long do they realistically last? I don't want to order too few but at the same time I dont' want to order enough to last me the next 6 months. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out :)

An ecig that meets your criteria is going to be one that uses normal rechargeable li-ion batteries, and not a standard ecig battery. There are lots of different options with different sizes, but all of them are going to be bigger than a cigarette. I would get something with a 510 atomizer as well, which means chuck, lil' chuck, protege, silver bullet, or one of the ones I'm forgetting. Order 4 or 5 atomizers so you've spares, and about 10 blank carts. A handful of 10ml juices in various flavors at various strengths so that you can pin down the flavors you like, or do some research into mixing your own using one of the nicotine bases widely available (myfreedomsmokes, bliplabs, and iirc theres one other guy).

This alternative is downright cheap compared to smoking if you buy the right stuff and do your research, it only gets expensive when you start buying the wrong stuff over and over again.

You can probably expect to spend $150 or so on your initial 'get everything' order from various places, after that it'll die down to maybe $1 or $2 a day, tops.

Cali:First the basics of what I'm looking for:

1.) Ease of use. I want something that (at least to begin with) will be easy to use.

While this might sound counterintuitive a manual battery is easier to use than an auto battery. And with the manual battery being sealed from liquid getting in and shorting it, the manual is the better choice in that regard as well. Read this on manual vs. auto:

2.) I definitely want something that's going to give me a good throat hit as that's kind of what smoking does for us right? lol

Throat hit comes from nicotine helped by heat. Because the Joye 510 atomizer (not any 510 but the Joye 510) has the right resistance for more heat, it is a better atomizer for throat hit - whether on a regular battery, a mega battery or the batteries that nerf points to for mods - and those will give you the best throat hit.

3.) Something that's going to last longer than a few puffs before I have to put it back on a charger.

Because it does produce more heat and people tend to hang on the button, the 510 does not fulfill this requirement as well as the others. The 'solution' is to keep the 510 atty - a plus, and upgrade to a mega batt or a mod. At that point you're #3 will be matched. And there isn't any other regular sized batteries that will do that so the 510 kit is still the best starter for the considerations you've posted.

4.) Price is a slight factor as well. It doesn't really serve quite as much good if i'm spending MORE in this than what i costs me to smoke regularly.

The Joye 510 no box starter kit goes for $35 at a popular site and if you add some ejuice - which you absolutely should - you get free shipping there as well. There will be more expense by going to the mega batteries and a mod of course, but ultimately most people tend to end up there. But it matters where you start because the 510 atomizer is the most popular mod atty and for good reason.

So I guess I'm asking for some overall insight into where I might want to start and a good company to do business with. I know this is a bit lengthy but I wanted to be as thorough as I possibly could with what I'm looking for and wanting at least as a starting point. Best on juice is to start with getting one 20ml bottle with the starter kit so you don't run out and have to run out for cigarettes after you've depleted the prefilled cartridges. Suggest getting a bottle of Marlboro at 18mg to start. But then go for the less expensive samplers that many vendors offer in 3, 5 or 6ml bottles for under $5 to find out what flavors you want. Only then order the 15 - 30ml bottles.

Another option is to buy 'cartomizers' which are a combination of atomizer and cartridge contained in one unit. You would need a 510 to cartomizer adapter:

1x 510-901 adapter(510 bat to 901/808D-1 at) - E-cig Multi Adapters - Wholesale & Retail Best E-smoking Supplier=

and you can try cartomizers without having to buy another expensive kit that uses them exclusively.
