The Hybrid BF atty has just fried my Mini (after just being rebuilt!!!) for the second time in 10 days!

My Reo Mini was rebuilt by Rob a few days ago after a Vapage Hybrid Bottom Feeder atty caused a direct short and fried several internal components in it. (I'm a little unclear if changes were made to any of the newly installed components.)

So yeah... They're new on the market, Have a very different center pin design, and one of em smoked my mini last week. (I posted about it here in my 'Collapsed Spring' thread.) Some others had the same problem. Shortly after this, Rob posted a sticky about repairs.

Rob was good enough to fix/rebuild/(possibly change?) it & had it back to me in a flash. I put on a new Hybrid BF atty and it's worked well since yesterday. Then, while vaping, it just fried again! Smoke, Heat, Collapsed spring, horrible smell. (1.5 ohm "BF" atty metered @ 1.9 ohms & AW14500 hi-drain batt.)

I feel it is important to note here:
BOTH TIMES, these things sparked up my Reo WITH NO precursor event!! (In other words, during the course of normal vaping.) I had not made any adjustment before the fatal hit either time! Both times it was just puff...puff...POW! with the atty remaining untouched.
Also
This is a 4 month old Mini that NEVER had a problem with ANY 510 or 306 atty before. (Cisco, IKV, Bauway, Joye.) It has been absolutely bullet proof. In fact, the same can be said for all three of my Reos.

My recommendation is DO NOT BUY the Hybrid BF atties.

Food for thought: The Reo Thankfully, uses the spring as a failsafe... Imagine having one of these atties short out while using a telescopic device that screws down on the battery!!!! (GG for instance)

I've taken them off all my Reos.
YMMV.

i just recived a hybrid bottom feeding 2.0Ω vapage atty from COV. i have been using it all night, should i not use it on my grand?

I would take a good look at the center post on that atty. It should not protrude past the body of the threaded end, nor should it wiggle around in any fashion.

Wow, Lisa. I had no idea it was that different.

I'd be interested in seeing the battery connector on a Vapage mod. Maybe these attys were designed to be used specifically with that mod?

I thought I had read somewhere that their atties were proprietary...so perhaps that is it.

It's really more my fault for trying a second one after Rob was kind enough to rebuild my Mini. Geez, I feel so stupid!
It won't happen a third time.

(I am still so mystified by the unpredictable randomness of it. I mean, if I had just tightened or... removed & replaced the atty, at least I would know: don't DO that again. But it just happened from one hit to the next, without touching the atty. That's creepy. (And I know some have used em with no issue.)

I'm REALLY thankful I have more than one Reo. I'm back on my 306s. :)

PS.. What the heck are you people doing up this time of night? :p
