TC all the way for me as well, and pretty much only stainless steel (304 & 316) coils. I also realised that I only use joyetech/Wismec/Eleaf mods nowadays. An Evic VTC Mini, an Istick 100 tc, two Cuboids, two Reuleaux rx200's, one Reuleaux dna 200...

I've been fighting TC with SS316L on my Koopor Plus 200W. It was a really hot, crackly vape with TCR at 92 or even 88 on a .7 ohm coil. Smok says that TC works on the Koopor Plus from .08 to 3 ohms and .1 to 3 ohms in wattage mode.

It seems that there was a bad setting in the stock firmware for the Koopor. This guy talked with their tech support and found that it worked great at 75 for his .23 ohm coil. So, apparently cranking down TCR does the trick for taming the Smok Koopor Plus. Somewhere between 0.00092 and 0.00001 should be the sweet spot, anyway.

Others are saying that 304 works fine and SS316L is far too hot at stock TCR.

TC on 316L is my favorite, my non TC mods are getting very lonely & jealous. Takes a while to dial it in right, I'll never buy another mod that doesn't have a settable TCR. Cleaner flavor, more consistency, easy to wrap, works on non-TC mods .... What's not to love?

once i tried tc with my own ti coils there was no going back. i had iffy performance from stock atlantis ni coils so i moved to a stm and bought a roll of ti wire. the coils last forever and are much cheaper than production coils. i just clean them up when i re-wick. flavor and vape are great and consistent. i also like the idea of using a pure (elemental) metal for my coil. no going back.

I think it kinda-sorta worked ok with Factory VaporShark and Kanger Ni200 coils (I still have most of them unused) however early on I invested in 28-32AWG Ni200 and then later 24-32AWG Ti and SS430, Nife48, Nife70 wire.

With the wide selection of wire I've rebuilt everything from my Aspire K1 to Atlantis coils for TC as well as an army of different RTA's.

Needless to say, I like TC and prefer it over VW/VV modes. I suppose I might of had a different opinion if I had not started making my own coils.
    • TC mode on most devices is "limited" to 0.05-1.0ohm builds so for the most part it is "subohm" vaping
    • Not all tanks/atomizers will work well with it because of static (or not so static) resistance in the tank or atomizer.
Outside of the "limited" resistance range TC effectively makes resistance of the coil a non-issue and lets me concentrate more on ID+Wraps and wicking when building. Some chipsets have dry coil/wick detection which can help save the wick if the wicking is not optimum.

Any power adjustment ends up only effecting temperature ramp up time as the calculated temperature of the coil becomes the deciding factor for vapor production and along with air flow control how hot/cold the vape is.

As I recall the VV/VW factory atomizers I started out with would give very inconsistent vaping experience. Instead of being able to "dial in" the power and airflow to my liking I'd end up adjusting my vaping style (along with air flow and wattage) to whatever sweet spot settings the tank/atomizer operated best at. (or failed the least at)

On VV/VW "chain vaping" would often get warmer as I vaped and starting with a cold tank/atomizer would be a different experience then after a dozen or more pulls/draws/puffs.

As a disclaimer I don't think I own any Kanthal wire and never have wrapped a coil bound for VW mode.

I decided to try TC since I could pick up the IPV D2 fairly cheap. I tried the Ni200 stock coils for the Atlantis v1 and Sub mini. While I had a couple flavors that worked fairly nice with the Sub mini, I couldn't find anything I liked with the Atlantis Ni200 vape and started to think I would just go back to power mode.

But on a bit of a whim, I picked up the Lavabox DNA200. Not that I "needed" it, but the timing was right for a high level mod for my 18 month vaperversary, Christmas, and my 20 year heart attack anniversary. So TC is gonna get another serious try, and glad I did.

I am finding a far more consistent and pleasurable TC vape on the Lavabox then the D2. I am especially liking the TFV4 Titanium coils, so much so that I haven't even tried a second flavor in it yet. Just starting out with the SS316L coils in the Herakles Plus, but that is looking promising as well. So while I haven't made a complete change over to TC, I can see having some tanks all set up for it with certain flavors that "just work".

IMHO, the verdict on TC could be highly dependent not only on the tank, wire, build, and/or flavor, but the mod may make a significant difference as well. For me, it is taking some time, trial, and error. Not sure where I will end up, but willing to make the effort. And since I mentioned "builds", it has intrigued me enough that I am considering attempting that for the first time in spite of a problem with tremors. The benefits may just outweigh the effort.

This ^^^^^^^^^^ I couldn't agree more. Not all mods are created equal when it comes to TC. It's hard to find someone who owns a DNA200 who doesn't think TC is the way to go (no hate mail, I'm not saying they are the only good TC mods). I also totally agree not all tanks are suitable for TC either. Another common theme seems to be us that build are own coils also have a better experience with TC vs factory heads. Just my :2c:

    Cheers,
    Steve

I mostly use mechanical mods but I did purchase an IPV D2 last year. I did some TC builds using nickel and they were fine, but I've gone back to Kanthal because I like to regularly dry burn and re-wick and I didn't like not being able to use the TC builds on my mechs. I vape at low wattage and I don't burn my wicks and I doubt that I'll go back to TC any time soon.

I am completely converted to using 316L & 304 stainless steel TC for all of my tanks, although I still use normal power mode for kanthal RDA builds. The coils need to be rewicked less often with TC builds since there are no dry hits.

I cannot stand the taste of Ni200 or Ti wire. Stainless doesn't have the overly strong metallic taste of the other TC wires.

It was a meh for me and not a game changer. I learned how to properly build and wick when I started this adventure. The last true dry hit I had was with a ce4 a long time ago. Recently was given a vaperesso cCell to play with. Plugged it into my so so super tank mini and it's been killing it since. Now I don't need to go back to TC anytime soon and can wait out the new next best thing.

Completely hated it on my first gen DNA40 vaporshark, but i have come to terms with it using Ti builds on the Evic VTC mini. It works alright, the wicks last a little bit longer and that's about it.
I never had any problems with dry-hits, so not really a game changer for me.

If anything, i am trusting Ti wire to be a bit more healthy (if treated properly) than the Aluminium in Kanthal but that is pure personal speculation.

There is no way any of you that say you don't get dry hits or they aren't an issue is using an RDA, unless you religiously drip after a few toots.

I love to drip but a dry hit will make you want to put it down for the count and pick up your RTA. With TC this doesn't happen, never tasting burnt cotton (or rayon) is a bit of a game changer for myself. Sure a smooth consistent vape is great, but not a game changer since you can get a relatively smooth and consistent vape with standard wattage.

I think people foray into temperature control with preconceived notions of greatness (because of hype), when really it's just evolution. A next step, you can stand still or move forward...whichever option you choose is the correct option for you.

I may try to get others to try stainless steel wire but I don't really talk up TC that much, sort of strange since I like it.
