Weak Vapot From My Protege'

I've noticed the vapor production from my Protege is lacking bigtime. I currently have the 510 and 901 adapters and the 510 is working the best of the 2 but the vapor production on both is just not where it should be at all. I am using the same 510 atomizer and swapping it to my other 3.7 device and the vapor production from my Protege does not even come close. Any tips or ideas cause its really a let down.

Another weird thing is that when I use a Joye 801 LB atty on my other 3.7 device it gives more vapor than anything I have ever vaped including my Silver Bullet 510 running at 6 volts:confused: How could that be? Seriously the vapor cloud I get is just MASSIVE coming from a 3.7 device.

I'd start by making sure all the Protege connections are clean - bottom/top caps and atty connection.

Then another 14500, freshly charged batt - in case the "other" one is on its way out.

Lastly I'd check the atty connection and make sure it's sound compared to others - maybe it's not quite right or 100% isolated and your getting a bit of a short.

Did all of that multiple times.Cleaned all my connections with alcohol, chnaged out multiple batteries. I just dont think its getting the proper output voltage it should be getting. Does ot put voltage have to do with the switch at all? I don't have a multi meter to test this but something is making the unit not able to put out what it should.

Well, I accidentally fired my switch and did my own, home replacement. It did seem to 'work' better with the new switch in so perhaps my solder job was better than I thought.

It's possible the switch isn't 100% or the solder joints aren't great. A multimeter would help you and even an inexpensive one from RatShack could show you a diff.

There's a new mechanical switch available so that might be another option - should offer best connection.

Worse case would be to put in a ticket and let Cash and crew give it a once over as the atty connector could have a problem.

The switch on my Prodigy started going bad and I was getting less vapor. It got to the point where I had to really mash down on the button to get anything out of it. Bought a backup switch assembly and sent my old one back for warranty replacement, now it works like new again.

The early version of the Protege has the same tact switch as the Prodigy and it's not very reliable from all the comments I've seen on the Puresmoker forum.

There is a new mechanical switch available now which should be a drop-in replacement for the old one:
PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!

That is what my switch was doing, I had to push and push it down so hard. I sent my unit back and Steve said it wasn't my switch, it was my batteries. I should have it back in today's mail, so looking forward to it. I missed it. I love the size of it.

It's definitely not a battery problem for me as I have multiple 14500's and they all work great in my other devices.

Definitely get yourself a mechanical switch on pre order because you're going to want that for the long haul.

Ya i'm sure thats the smart thing to do. Im looking forward to getting my Super Six that is all mechanical nd I wont have to deal with any type of switch failures ever cause its also all mechanical.

Exactly what is the mechanical switch and how easy is it to install?

Installation is very easy.

Unscrew both top/bottom caps and pull the batt.

Push a flat bottomed pen from the batt side up thru the protege tube and gently press up while using your thumb to move the outer switch plate up.

The switch plate/button fit into a 'slot' on the black delrin and that whole thing slides up and out - towards the atty.

The new mechanical switch comes with everything - black delrin and switch plate. So you put that all together and gently slide it back in from that atty side until is seats.

I've noticed a serious increase in vaper after giving my Protege a great cleaning. I'm talking pulling out some brass/aluminum cleaner. I was cleaning it all up cause i was going to sell it off after going with a 5/6v mod.

I cleaned all the threads and the adapter. After cleaning it i ofcourse had to try it out to make sure it was good to go and damn, it was freakin awesome like the first time i used it!

Funny how i clearly remember that first time using it with a huge smile on my face and saying how i'm in love.. its was that all over again. Keeping it now!

Cant wait to order a mechanical switch for it after the holidays.

P.S. I always cleaned the adapter and atty threads with rubbing alcohol and it never cleaned it anything close to this.

Yup. Cleaning the brass switch contacts and the end cap threading makes a huge difference. :thumb:
