I was recently reading some articles about sleeping and before electric lights when people generally went to bed with the sun that it wasn't uncommon for people to wake up sometime after midnight. They would get up do something for half an hr to an hr then go back to bed. It's similar to the concept of the siesta (in reverse) which has fallen out of vogue for a lot of the western cultures. Try doing some light activity such as reading, cruising the forums, ect... until you get tired again.
