Weird characters instead of text?

Maybe a new problem as a result of the upgrade, not sure.

In some threads, esp. like in the DIY recipe forum, there are strange characters instead of a word. Example "4%". I used to do a lot of html coding, but I can't remember what this "html substitution" is called. I'm using Firefox 3.6.8 and have updated latest Java as well.
Anyway here's a thread to illustrate:

Any ideas?

edit: I think it's the "%" character getting replaced with "%"

I think this has to do with the upgrade... vBulletin made the switch to support international characters and broke everything doing so...

I know two fixes off the top of my head, one is is permanent but requires a lot of CPU Time (re-processing every post), two is a hackafix. #TODO

New posts after the upgrade should work correctly however...
