Hi there, this is a two part question..

I'm newish to genesis style atomizers, got an AGA T2 on Friday, rolled my first wick without a single hitch. Came out to 1.8ohms and I vaped on no problemo.

My issue seems to be that if I remove the top cap and re-fill with juice or even just hit the fire button without the top cap on and watch it wick away, I all of a sudden get a hot spot? Not sure if this makes sense or not. For instance tonight, I removed the top cap to re-fill with juice and then fired it to see it wicking (which it was quite nicely) Then I put the top cap back on as normal in it's proper position and I get a burnt/tinny taste. My ohms read out properly and my voltage is set properly.

So at that point I empty the tank completely and burn the wick and sure enough there is a hot spot, not a massive one, but a noticeable one. I'll fix it back up and I am back in business.. and this is most odd because if I fix the hot spot and re-fill, it's suddenly gone? But if I do a "top up" perse I can run into issues?

This isn't a huge ordeal but it's annoying as it seems when I "top up" the tank something goes wrong? I fill the tank by using a syringe and fill it just about 3/4 full.

My other question is that sometimes out of nowhere my ohms will change on me. I can go from 1.8 down to 1.5 without doing anything? Any ideas?

Other than this small issue I am quite happy with the performance as I had been previously using an IGO-L dripper, it's about the same flavor and vapor but without the hassle of constant dripping.

Any help or insight appreciated!

Answer 1: burnt/tinny taste is usually caused by not having enough eliquid up by the coil. When you hit the button, and watched the vapor, you apparently vaporized all of the eliquid in that part of the wick, and got the hot spot. I typically put a drop of eliquid on the wick, just before putting the top on, avoiding the hot spot/burnt taste. Alternatively, I don't hit the fire button with the top off.

Answer 2: I also see the ohms change on my genisis-style atomizers, most often when I have a new wick or new coil. When I see the change, I'll give the atty a tap with a fingernail, and if that doesn't fix it, I take the top off, give the wick a slight rotation, reassemble, and vape on. What I think is happening: a hot spot started to form, and burned away the oxidation (insulation?) between the coil and wick, causing it to partially short. The more 'broken in' your coil/wick is, the less likely this seems to occur.

Give the above a try. If it works, it will save you the hassle of emptying your tank.

Never had this happen. Started my genesis builds with AGA T2s, then ZAUs, Zaps, 3 zenesis and now Cobras. Can run same wick for a month and no problems. I'll offer what I do as I watched like 50 videos until I came up with something that worked for me.

Roll your wick on a small paperclip so it's like a straw. I oxidize before I roll and no quenching. Should slide freely in wick hole.

Before I coil, I drip clear vg on the wick and light it with a lighter. As soon as I see the blue flame I blow it out. You can relight about 2 times. Couple more drops and repeat the procedure. Make sure it burns at the bottom of the wick as well. Basically you are creating a little carbon layer on top of the oxidation. The top insulates the coil and the bottom insulates the wick from the bottom of the tank if it should happen to touch. Space it about a 1/16 of an inch off the bottom though.

Then I roll my coil while still on the paper clip. 4 wraps of 32ga usually gives me 1.6-1.8. I wrap counter clockwise to shorten the distance from the posts to the coil. Your wick should actually be able to slide up and down with a slight twisting motion. If it doesn't it's usually too tight a wrap.

I hook it up and put it on a VV device set to 3V and fire it to check coils and adjust if necessary, making sure they all glow equally. A couple drops vg while increasing voltage to 3.3 slightly and checking vapor is next.

Fill it and vape. I use 400 mesh and roll the wick pretty tight. I don't trim at angles or any of that . I trim the top to be not higher than my top post connection.

I vape all kinds of juice from straight vg to 80/20 and this works for me. The only juices I notice a burnt taste on towards the end of a tank are some NETS. I believe this happens through oxidation after they leave the bottle. I don't generally leave NETS sitting in a tank for long and fill only what I will vape that day. I hope you can maybe pick out one tiny piece from all of this that might help your situation.
