I have no idea what is going on with my REO these past few days. It was working fine and dandy then it started vaping very inconstantly. I tried everything, I washed it, checked the screws on the atomizer, filed and noaloxed it. When the battery is pushed all the way in it doesn't fire. I have to pull the battery out a little for it to fire. So when I put the door on it.. it doesn't work. Any ideas what it could be because I cannot figure it out to save my life

If you washed and Noaloxed it, then you probably would have noticed if this were the case, but it almost sounds like your firing pin has shifted a little so that it's not striking the button of the battery. Make sure the point if the firing pin is coming down at the right place to strike the battery. They're not usually loose, but the pin can get moved sometimes.

I'm guessing this. Take the delrin insert (the plastic immediately below the firing pin...you know, the very top part behind the door) out and see if the pin has been forced forward somehow. If this is the problem, switching to the new SO kit and using flat tops could keep the problem from reemerging.

Also, go Pens!! I'll be on pins and needles tonight. Not particularly hopeful pins and needles, but pins and needles nonetheless.

You wouldn't (or maybe you would) believe how much fun it is being a Pens fan in Philly. Hehehehe.

If you have the older contacts your positive contact is still dirty. You say you cleaned it but I am fairly sure its not clean enough . You need to use a metal file on the older contacts and apply some pressure while your cleaning the contact

can someone point me towards where the new contacts are? using a grand here.
thanks, folks!

Just reminding everyone, the rebuild kit for the Grand or the Mini REO's has the new contact and spring.

There is no "new" kit. Just new parts in the rebuild kit.

Tautology! The kit is new enough to be called the SO kit all over here! BTW, why is there not a new spring screw in the kit?

Anyhow - you don't say what builds you run on your Reo, but i use sub-ohms and have to clean mine at least weekly. On my ones with OLD kits (hehe) you really do have to file it like you mean it, not just a little buffing!

I also like to turn the spring plate slightly so the battery tends to lean into the top, but you could achieve the same thing and restrict the battery movement by wrapping a tab of electrical tape around it, which makes it easier to get out too.

Rob you sir are correct, I wasn't filing it hard enough due to fear of deforming the firing pin. I put some ... into it and it works good as new haha

It might be that the bottom of the button is worn down where it contacts the firing pin. I've had them wear to the point that the old firing pins would stick on the side of it and it would start to jam. As the button wears it makes the shape change that is like a V.

I always remove the safety pin that is pressed into the side of the button so the button turns freely. It gives the button equal wear all the way around so it doesn't rest in one place so it lasts much longer. I use Rob's black delrin button cap and I spin it around with my finger often so it wears evenly.

Yes, I'm overriding the safety feature so do this at your own risk. If you carry your Reo in your pants pocket you should probably forget about doing this. Before I retired I worked in an office and I always carry my minis in my shirt pocket or set them down upright. I never buy shirts that don't have front pockets anyway so it's never been a problem for me.

If you decide to go that route the pin isn't easy to get out either. None of my pliers or needle nose would ever grasp it. It's too short. I had to lay the thing into the slightly spread jaws of vice grips and use a small brad nail to drive the pin through enough to grab it from the other side.

:)
