I know a little about a lot of things and a lot about just a few things. And for the record I only had to look up two of my answers. If a person can actually get me to talk I am a quite good conversationalist, but, I'm shy in an anxiety disorder sort of way.

I guess you've never considered trying out for Jeopardy then, huh? You'd be great at it if you just pretended that you were on this forum instead of in front of a camera. One of my best friends has a mind like yours...she remembers so much " useless trivia" as she calls it. (I've always been a little envious, since I tend to have a very poor memory. I wanted to be a history teacher until it dawned on me it would help if you could remember stuff, lol.) My friend is no longer shy (that just seems to go away as you grow older, so hang in there) but she paradoxically has little confidence in all that she knows and I can't get her to audition for the show.

Again, you do great on here so you have it in you. That is one good thing I can say about growing older...you no longer care as much about what people think of you.

my sucking at people and being shy are both caused by a serious anxiety disorder. I LOVE Jeopardy and watch it if I have the time (mostly I don't) as well as wheel of fortune I'm pretty good at both. I'm not good at talking though, I trip over my own tongue and stutter a bit when I get nervous, and being verbally asked a question that I'm also expected to answer verbally sends me into a panic attack. My memory is not as good as I wish, I can remember lots of trivia, but not what we did on my daughter's birthday this past February. I consider mine 'interesting tidbits' as opposed to 'useless trivia', as I try not to be negative about myself thanks to my psychologist (bout the only thing I appreciate from therapy).

Why do dogs turn around when they lay down, but cats just flop down? I don't know why dogs do it but I've known lots of cats who do it too. from what I've been able to find, nobody knows for sure.

I know this one! It is one of those things that is ingrained in them from years and years ago in the wild. Both dogs and cats turn in circles because in the wild, they would do it to trample down all the high grass and stuff to make a bed for themselves.

Heres another question, though: Why is it that little birds that are out in the snow don't get frostbitten on their skinny little legs?

Because the snow is dry and the skinny legs are not warm enough to melt the snow. Wet feet on the snow would feel a lot colder. So the legs are just touching the snow, after all they're touching the air too all the time and the air can be a lot colder than the snow.

...I think.

Edit: The blood circulation system (or whatever it's called) is different on the feet so they'll stay cooler.

OK so why dont they get frostbite? Whether from the cold air or snow or ice or whatever? If a person walked around bare in that cold they would get frostbite in all their extremities. Birds having such teeny little twiggy legs, you would think they would freeze almost instantly.

I didn't read all the other responses, but here's my take on the ones I can make a guess at

I have a rather cluttered brain! Like I was saying in another thread, I have a whole warehouse of useless trivia up there. It's a lot like an overstuffed attic in need of a garage sale!:)
Maybe you can help me tag and bag it so I can go out and get more!
Here is are some questions that need answers. And so I don't overwhelm you..I'll stick to only a couple of subjects.

When a song is in another language (other then English) Does it rhyme?

The ones I have been able to translate: yes, but when they translated them, they moved the words around, and changed a few to make them rhyme in english.

If so how come when they translate it, it rhymes in English?

If you live somewhere like China and your keyboard has Chinese characters on it..how do you type in English? I can't type in Chinese.

I have a friend in Ukraine- she types in english. I think they have certain keys that do different things- like we can do µ┴kó© using alt+4 letters on the number pad.

Why do ankles swell when you retain water but not wrists or knees..or shoulders for that matter? They are joints too. I know ankles are at the bottom..but they do it even if you keep your feet 'Up".

Wrists will swell too- but gravity holds most of it to the bottoms. I got to try out the wrist swelling when I was preggo.

Why are the letters on the keyboard all mixed up? I can't see how this makes typing easier! I always have to look for the Xand Q! This had to be some guys idea!

? no clue.

Why does the keyboard say enter when it's really return!

It's not return: return was the name of the button when we were back in the day of typewriters, and you wanted the roll thingy to return. It IS enter- or more accurately, would be "submit" because you hit it when you are done typing what you want on a given line, or when you want to submit a page or form.

How does it know the difference between return and enter when you click on a hyperlink?

Why do some sites give you things like click Alt F3 when they want you to do things like delete or move to another box? (just an example, I have no clue what alt F3 does and I don't want to try or I may lose my post)

no clue

What is ~ suppose to be? ~o> besides a mouse tail? And how do you ask the computer when you don't know what it's called?

No clue what it's called- in math sign, it means approximately. I could say something was ~15, as in approximately 15, otherwise it's just a neat squiggle, like signing my name ~Anna, it's just for emphasis. And I would google something dumb like "squiggle line on keyboard" to find out what it's called. And I just did, and it's called a tilde.

Why are there{} if there are ()? {this looks dumb}

Used for math, not so much for typing. But math teachers gotta type up forms too ya know.

In Florida we don't have basements..they would be indoor pools in about 6 seconds. But why don't we have real attics? Not just crawlspaces?

No clue. I'm from AZ, and we didn't have either crawlspaces, or basements, or attics either. I think attics are sooo cool, since I never had one before I moved here. LOL (but I dont have one now. :( )

If you get SADD (depressed because of the shortage of sunlight) then why isn't every Northern home equipted with those sunlight boxes or lamps?

Why when you are falling asleep do you hear a voice..clear as a bell, mostly they say my name, but I swear they are right next to me..it could be Mike or mom, sometimes it's one of the kids or grands. I have heard of it happening to other people too. I just don't know why. (and no they don't tell me to do things..lol)

I am stopping now because my brain filing clerk is getting mad..she has stuff filed by some alien logic known only to her. I have pulled out too many files.

In case you think I am kidding..
If I want to think of one certain singer, I have to think of Edie Gorme who is married to Steve Lawrence, That reminds me of Carol Lawrence who at one time was married to Robert Goulet!!! Yeah..that's him the late great Robert Goulet!
I cannot short cut From Edie Gorme to Robert Goulet...my file clerk has him under Carol Lawrence. It takes all 4 steps!
There is probably some long drawn out name for this problem..I just blame my demented file clerk..who thinks all i's follow e's. and all kids have the same name!

Wanted to toss out one more thing: genealogy: once removed, would be me, to my cousins children. They are my first cousins once removed.

Example- I have cousin Susan, her dd Sarah. Sarah is my first cousin once removed. My child: Sam. Sam is Sarah's second cousin. Now, when the kids get older, and have their own kids and grandkids, is when it get's funky. So, say Sarah has grandkids. They would be Sam's Second Cousins, twice removed. (I think- i'd have to draw it out to be certain- LOL) Or, to me, Sarah's grandkids would be my first cousins three times removed.

Well Hi Marg! been busy?
My dog turns to check for cats! They have a way of taking over her bed!
I have to get some sleep now, but I do have more goofy questions to post!:pI had to let my file clerk put everything back in the drawers..she gets so fussy about me dragging files out and leaving them on the floor! fancy that.8-o
