Well, I've noticed for the past week (started eCigs about 10 days ago) that I have this weird ringing/roaring in one ear. I guess I can best descibe it as the noise that you would hear from a distant freight train. It's not horrible, it's just there. I'm afraid that it might get worse. So...I went to web md's system checker and put in this symptom. Here is what I found:

You may be able to prevent ringing in the ears if you:
  • Limit or avoid exposure to loud noises, such as music, power tools, gunshots, and industrial machinery.
    • Wear protective earplugs or earmuffs if you cannot avoid loud noises. Do not use wadded-up tissue or cotton balls. These do not protect adequately against loud noises, especially the more dangerous high frequencies, and they may become lodged in the ear canal.
    • Be careful when using stereo headphones. If music is so loud that others can hear it clearly or you can't hear other sounds around you, the volume is too high.
  • Cut back on or stop drinking alcohol and beverages containing caffeine.
  • Do not smoke or use smokeless tobacco products. Nicotine use may cause tinnitus by reducing blood flow to the structures of the ear.
HMMMM, has anyone else experienced this? I guess that I'm overdosing on the nicotine?!? I find it hard to believe that I'm getting more now than when I smoked the real ones. (I'm using Medium strength liquid) I've never had anything like this going on with my ear/s.

I'm anxious to hear anyone's reply!

for ur safety i'd stop right away.. at least to remove the possibility that ur e-cig is causing it.

tinitus is no joke. I have been working in clubs for years and have it quite bad.

Also.. if you're smoking ur e-cig a lot then u probably are getting more nic than if u smoked regular. (please someone correct me if i'm wrong).
Because there's no cig to burn through to gage how much ur vaping u can over-do it. it took me only a couple of days to learn i needed to vape less as i kept on over doing it and getting nicotine jitters.

eitherway.. 1st things 1st.. get ur hearing straight. if nicotine is causing it to get effed then u need to quit nicotine. period.

Hi Cara - I have had tinnitus for about a year now, no idea if my smoking (of real cigs) caused it or if it was stress (although generally its supposed to go away again if its stress related... and it hasn't!). tinnitus and permanent and untreatable, although there is some suggestion that having it in one ear only can be a symptom of something else, you might want to consult your doctor if cutting back on the nicotine doesn't help.

Fingers crossed - its not very nice, although you do get used it it!!

Whenever you get symptoms associated with nicotine overdose, cut back on the nicotine. This is so very easy with e-smoking. Dilute your liquid with vegetable glycerine, or order cartridges with lower amounts of nicotine. I like the action of e-smoking and it's important to keep me from buying a real pack, but regulating nicotine is a must, since I e-smoke all day. Experiment with low-nicotine and see if it goes away.

Narrowing arteries (vasoconstriction) is something nicotine does. That's a fact. Your ears are on the front lines, along with your eyes and your sex organs. Any symptom deserves your attention. Tread carefully until normalcy returns.

See, you've got all these tiny blood vessels down there ...

Throat hit is not something I crave, but fact is we don't know everything in our commercial e-liquids. I think it was Kate who said pepper could be added to the mix and you'd get a throat hit. The worse stuff I ever tried was the EZ-Quit liquid from E-Cig. Now, that's nasty stuff and made me cough. Throat hit or not, it was terrible. It has no nicotine.

I just can't say positively that I get more throat hit with 24mg than with much lower amounts of nicotine. Frankly, sometimes the vapor is not sufficient to give any feeling at all! I rarely get a throat hit .. and don't miss it. I want taste and flavor far more.
