The problem with the family of drugs of that type, floxins, was they were quite effective antibiotics for severe infections. Thanks to overprescribing, there are now lots of bacteria that are resistant to them. If they hadn't been so widely handed out, we would still have them for severe infections. But they were marketed and pushed by the drug companies and we lost an entire class of antibiotic. Floxins are not alone in having severe side effects, some of the oldest drugs had side effects including hearing loss and required careful dosing and blood tests to assure safe use. But again, those were reserved for life threatening infections, not routine sinusitis type illnesses (unless like a super bad infection eroding towards your brain, but then you're hopefully in the hospital getting IV antibiotics, not outpatient treatment).

Vinpocetine is a weird drug that somehow snuck in under the the supplements rules of the FDA. It does have real side effects like lowering blood pressure, not terrific if you're already on blood pressure pills, and interacts as a mild blood thinner, not good if you're already on blood thinners for other medical problems. Not saying it can't be effective for tinnitus, but I'd check with your doctor and a list of any medicines you take before taking it, believing it's just some sort of safe herbal remedy.

Thanks, I read about the bans on those across the world and did read about the side effects as well. Off the shelf stuff is questionable anyhow. Prescribed meds are dangerous enough by themselves.

Like many I searched up on the site, I have it my left ear. However, my hearing is damaged over the years from noisy work and loud firearms and lack of PPE use.

Since August this year, stress has been present. Smoked a boatload of medium to heavy cigars, fell into Kool longs for about 13 packs and bought a vape.

It's kind of known pg can exasterbate ringing, so can nic I'm told.

I'm addition, in November I got a bad case of bronchitis and sinusitis at the same time. Both can affect the tubes in the ears.

The meds the Dr gave me can also cause ringing.

At least for a couple months now I'm smoke free again.

Mostly waiting to see if the ringing calms down. Definitely quiets overnight, and picks up on vaping in the morn and then all day.

Using 70-30 saltnic 50, but a 100 short puffs or less daily.

I'm trying some white noise apps to my Bluetooth headphones as a relief. It's not terrible yet, but annoying.

Going to cut the nic power with mixes and look at higher vg I guess. I'm told tinitus is a symptom of other ear problems and doesn't cause deafness.

Dave

We shall see I guess.

Got a hearing test, definitely have hearing loss. Not much to do about Tinnitus according to my ENT. They attributed it to my hearing loss. I respectfully disagreed. Explained the happenings and association with Fluoroquinolones, levofloxacin that I took for bronchitis/ sinusitis and some other side effects. I also picked up increased blurry vision from those drugs and new glasses.

There are hearing aids now with built in notch therapy. Not sure of their success but reports and reviews are encouraging. Hearing aids are my next option for hearing better and perhaps lessened Tinnitus.

I've had ringing my whole life (congenital) and it's gotten worse the older I get. I think giving up coffee and nik would help a tiny bit, but no way I'm giving up my cup 'o joe. My Bro. had to get hearing aids for his Captains license and they made it worse by amplifying the sound in the frequency of the ringing. He had to get another job. I'm just used to it and usually have a radio or tv on down low for background noise. I'm wearing a FF helmet too to cut down on wind noise, that is really worse than the Harley sound (unless I stand behind it). My wife is getting tired of me going "hunh?" :(

I've had tinnitus most of my life, but I blame that on lawn mowers without hearing protection and all those years I stood on stage in front of an amp with 4 to 8 12" speakers (280W RMS) and a loud drummer. In later, when I played in a Church Praise Band we had Shure belt pack monitors with volume controls and peak limiting. By that time it was too late. Still, I can hear TV turned down to a low volume and have no problems with conversations, even in noisy areas. I'm still much better off than my friends who rode dirt bikes all their lives!

If you work around loud devices a good set of Work Tunes head phones is a good idea. Great sound and good isolation design.

I hear you, pun intended, they told me coffee reduction might help. I don't find it makes any difference.

On nic, thought it might be that also, but one day Tinnitus is intense and today for example it's not. I'm convinced it was the Fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Nic and coffee may aggravate it some, but not my cause. Levofloxacin is moderately ototoxic. I'll post a public service on them in the lounge later today. Some supplements seem to be helping me I think.

I remember going to a specialist in a brownstone in Philly when I was a kid and he told my mom I would probably be deaf at 35. I'm almost 63 now and still going despite the motorcycles, guns machinery and music, so I guess I'm lucky. The loudest thing I ever heard was the Ramones in a small club in Baltimore, the Dead was loud, but a clean loud if that makes sense.

I have a set of these. I use them on a tractor, when using chain saw, blower, even an electric drill if the work is going on for a while. You are right, they are very effective. Mine has an input for an mp3 player, I have a rather inexpensive SanDisk plugged into it. Pleasant work listening to only what I like to hear. Life's good in these modern times.

This info would explain why my regular Bluetooth headphones didn't work, no noise reduction. I'll consider a pair of those. Beats earplugs on the lawn tractor.

I also shot too many guns without PPE and worked machine tool and plastics. Very noisy. Before OSHA and PPE laws. I have used ear plugs on the tractor for some time now. Most mowers are above 85db.

As to amps and speakers, had a few behind me also in a small band we had. Cranking my 72-73 fender tele. Loud bars, loud music etc. The good ole days. Retired now so tractors the only loud noise, mostly, unless I go to the range.

I've seen no change in the ringing since I've been vaping - roughly 10 years.

Had tinnitus for ever since I can remember. Nothing major, but definitely noticeable. But it doesn't bother me most of the time. Most noticeable in quite situations and when trying to fall asleep.

What does bother me is background noises affecting my ability to hear people talk that are right in front of me. That annoys me to no end.

Been to ENTs all my life. Tubes in eardrums many times.

Yes, night is the worst, I sleep in the living room now on a recliner and use the TV as background noise.

I use the humming of a fan, air condition or air purifier/filter (depending on time of year) but not just for the ringing, it helps block out external noises that can wake me up (then I can't get back to sleep).

I used to just sleep with a TV on for many years, but I can no longer fall asleep with the light from the TV shining through my eyelids. And if I do fall asleep, even slight changes in volume will wake me up. So no more TV for me.

Too bad, because TV is such a bore, it was a good "sleeping pill" lol

I have similar frustrations in crowds or if the person is walking in front of me talking away from me.

I'm told and haven't tried it yet in a quiet bedroom to turn on my clock radio between stations for the white noise, static.

I did download an app at the Play store called Resound Tinnitus relief that plays various sounds. My Bluetooth headphones are a PITA to wear, so I'm going to get some Bluetooth earbuds and hope they don't blow my ear off. The app can run on a timer and shutoff I think once asleep. ENT suggested lipo-flavanoids, haven't tried those either, yet. My TV has screensavers, but the light hasn't bothered me,..yet.

Although I mentioned the background noise problem, I don't think that is a result of the ringing of tinnitus. I have other ear problems so those may be the cause of that. Annoying nonetheless.

When background noise is present, I read lips a lot. And if that isn't working, I have to turn my head slightly in order to position my better ear such that I can hear the other person better, which is odd to some people lol. Not that I give a rat's :censored:

Can tinnitus be cured with an ear worm? Because if so, I am going to suggest Pink. She is one of the worst singers ever, but like, UNBELIEVABLE when it comes to ear worms. I'm going to try to find one of her more recent ear injuries, I mean songs, without the video because it's like a serious, revolting problem she puts on lingerie and stuff, and brandishes a whip, and Pink I am here to tell you, regardless of plastic surgery the time to do that was 20 years ago. Also I DARE anyone to get through this song, but IF you do, you will ALWAYS have it mentally available. God, back when I was listening to radio, there was one SO bad I turned my radio OFF after the first note, and sometimes it STILL didn't work. So glad I no longer listen to radio.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this.
I work for a consumer audio gear company and spend my day testing home speakers and repackaging. Between items I have Bose ANC 700 headphones, listen to podcasts etc at a level that drowns out the ring, and my co-workers. I have buds I can use at home and other ANC headphones. Going to find and try this app as well.

She came on American Idol I think it was (this was a while ago) and did a clearly autotuned version of "I'm just a girl" and did pushups. I really wanted to punch her vevy, very badly indeed. Like A LOT.

Pink is one of my most hated pop stars of all time. The crown is held by Madonna but I was A TEEN GIRL in the 80s.

Thank God for U2 is all I can say,. Yeah yeah I know,

Lady gaga did a KILLER performance on American Idol with a violinist. I know many hate Lady Gaga but she actually find some of her weirder stuff which is not pop she really has excellent musicianship skills.

I used to hate her because I billed her as just another talent-less music industry dolt.

But then a few years ago I heard/saw her singing the national anthem on TV (superbowl?) and I was shocked at how she actually was a talented singer. Sang it better than most others I've heard and in a very traditional way - nothing "fancy" or "post-modern" and did a perfect job of it, IMHO. My mouth hung open for a time as I listened because I was shocked she actually had vocal talent.

I don't hate her now. I respect her as a real musician even if I would never listen to her stuff even for free.
