I thought adding my name to the list of people volunteering to help in emergency situations and listing what I could help with in the immediate future and the area I would be willing to travel in to do so, would be a good start toward becoming part of the community here on PIF. But, since that thread has been moved out of the stickies, is already buried halfway down the page, AND is LOCKED so I can't even view it, maybe not? Maybe this someones way of telling me my contributions are not wanted here?
I would really like to become a regular on the PIF forums. I don't have much of anything to offer now (everything 'extra' I had has gone toward helping my ex-roommate kick the analogs), so I haven't accepted a PIF offer, because I have nothing to offer back yet. I thought if someone locally NEEDED something I COULD provide (right now, DIY liquid in waffle or RY4, or assistance with building a simple mod or PT, is all I have to offer), then that would be a way to begin showing my good intentions, despite my meager on-hand supplies.
But, then again, maybe not...

Hey.... it's nothing any of you did.

The mods got to talking, and we thought of something that haddnt been brought up before.
That by putting our locations up and promising/advertising to meet up with people in Real life.
We could be putting people in harms way, which isnt something any of us want.
This might be PIF but pif, is also on the internet.
Taking it to that level, is going a little to far.

Now I've got the list, and if something comes up...if needed we can make arrangements.
But we arnt going to post an open invitation with the world to do so.

However, I do think it's wonderful so many of you are willing to make basically make an open offer to help anyone in need.

I was hesitant to add my name to that list, simply because i was afraid it would create alot of pm's to different people asking for things. Not that I'm not willing to help, but I prefer to choose the need to address...instead of 14 needs coming to me at once.

Just my 2cents.

Please add my name for my area, Rose. Thanks :)

BobTheKlown, I did add your name to the list.
It is just a safety measure taken by the Moderators. They do want to make sure that we, as ECF members, take precautions.
As Piffers we need to stick together and watch out for one another for safety's sake.
Of course, by listing our Location and offering help to one another in an open forum, puts all of us at risk already. I do hope that each and everyone of us takes proper precautions when giving out our address to those unknowns. This goes for me, also. We are laying it on the line, so to speak, putting ourselves out there for all to see. As wonderful and seemingly honest as this is, it is also.......well, unknown.
If you agree to meet with someone, please do so in a public place. Have others around you, we need you safe and sound and to be here, happy, healthy and ready for the next PIF.

If I post on Craigslist: 'I have a bed, I have no need for it, email me to arrange pickup', Is that not online? Is that not meeting people in real life? Do I not still have a choice who I reply to, and meet up with? If I didn't want to meet people from the internet in real life couldn't I have not posted, or not responded, or not agreed to meet? I fail to see the difference, except here, the people who can read/reply to my message are all, if not PIF members, at least ECF members, therefore, in my opinion, less likely to be a crazy random internet person, or at least a violent crazy internet person... If this is somehow a concern, I think having a location and pic of yourself in your profile is just as dangerous.... We're all responsible for what we put out there, if I want to post my cell phone number online, that's my choice, I wouldn't, that wouldn't be bright, addys should still be PM'ed, not posted, but other then that, I fail to see a threat...... So, long story short: we all thought this was a good enough idea to post an area we would be willing to TRAVEL AT OUR OWN EXPENSE TO HELP A FELLOW VAPER, and then it gets pulled so only YOU can see it, thereby eliminating it's intended purpose: no one in dire straights searching for a solution is going to say, 'You know what, let me randomly PM some people on ECF... maybe one of them knows someone down the street...' and happen to PM you so you can tell them who's in their area... If you're the only one with the list, the list only benefits you and people who know to ask you for it... That was not my intention, and I believe probably not the intention of many posters to that thread...

I would like to post this open invitation to the world (I had alot more thought put into the way it WAS worded, in the thread eluded to earlier in this post): If you are a vaper who is in NEED and you are in or traveling through my area and something I have extra of will help you, please message me so I can help!

You know, to be honest, I don't know many folks who are going to fish through a multiple page thread to find people in their area either. I think they're going to post in the Emergency Need thread and people will respond. As for your Craigslist analogy, that'd be precisely what I'd worry about with that information posted here. You have heard of folks getting robbed from Craigslist posts, correct? I'm sure the ECF board doesn't want to take on that liability either.

If you are concerned about people being able to find out your location and/or contact you, maybe you could put a Facebook link in your profile? Otherwise, I'd wager that not only the PIF mods talked about this but also the ECF board mods weighed in. I know were I still running a board, I wouldn't want that sort of personal stuff out there that was condoned by the boards and stickied for all to see.

hmm, don't understand, seems to me we didn't list anymore info than what was already listed on our profile anyway,
and if i accept an offer from you on PIF do you not put a return address on the package ???
just sayin ???? we all put ourselves out there in order to help one another....

And I'll be sure to turn you into the police with a copy of this confession after I subdue you..... Like most sane people, I'm not just going to show-up at some random address, so the people standing around the well-lit public area where we would be meeting would get a good, free show....

i think we're all adults here !!!!!!

That's all I'm saying...
I really don't mean to turn this into a big argument, I just think the mods are overprotecting the adults who post on this forum... Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.... That's just how I feel, I can hardly ever get to the post office, and I often have a hard time paying for postage, but I can usually drop something off in an area I'm doing work in that week, or visiting a friend in that area... That's about all I can offer right now, emergency supplies (namely DIY eliquid), to people who would be in my area. Makes me feel left out, that my only contribution to the group is now locked away for mod eyes only, that's all...
