Last night I was at work, and myself and another guy were outside for our breaks (both of us vape), standing in an alcove in front of the store (we aren't supposed to smoke in front of the store, but we weren't smoking, although I've seen other employees smoke there) both vaping away, and this guy gets out of his truck, walks over to us and asks if he can buy a cigarette from either of us... I quickly reply "we don't smoke" and the other guy says "these are electronic" so the guy says "oh ok thanks" and leaves. Never had anyone ask me for a cigarette while I was vaping (or ever lol). A little later I was thinking and I should have asked him "does this look like a cigarette? And does it smell like a cigarette?" chances are it's not a cigarette! I mean we were both vaping box style mods that look NOTHING like cigarettes, so why bother asking? I mean if we'd been vaping cigalikes or even ego/evod style devices maybe... Anyone have this happen to you? I definitely wasn't going to let a complete stranger put his mouth on my drip tip and infect it with who knows what! Friends and family are one thing but some random guy at Meijer... No thanks!

Nothing like that, but I do go out and take a vape-break with a friend at work while he smokes. Went out the other day and he had forgotten his lighter. "Got a lighter I can use?" he asks me.. then realizes what he asked. We both were cracking up.

I've had it happen a few times.
My favorite was this guy at a concert that was so high the he thought he could walk up and just grab my mod out of my hand like I was his best friend. It's hard to communicate with the non-verbal, so he finally left me alone after some really nasty looks I sent his way.

I may have had someone ask once or twice before I vaped, but although I had smoked, I wouldn't consider myself a smoker, and never carried cigarettes. My response was "Sorry I don't smoke"
From the truck the cloud from your vape looks just like the smoke from a cigarette. The guy didn't even see what you were sucking on, He reacted to the cloud. Get used to it. You are vaping on what was introduced and sold to the WORLD as a smoking alternative. Or for simpler terms a SMOKELESS CIGARETTE. To the world we are smoking... The world also knows there is no smoke involved. BUT, we are smoking. The act is very much the same the methods are all we really changed. We made this bed now we must lay in it.

I know plenty of people that vape and smoke, using vaping to help them cut back on cigarettes. Not all of us are able to up and stop smoking cigarettes. For all we know the guy was fully aware you were vaping and thought you were the type that supplemented your smoking with vaping, so he figured you'd have a cigarette on you. I mean, regardless of the implementation (patch or gum or whatever), a nicotine user is more likely to have a cigarette on them than a non-nicotine user.

Reading the Op, the Story was interesting.............but then turned downhill.
I've had people ask me for a Cig or a lite several times since I switched. It is just a natural draw to the sight of what looks(to them) like Smoke. They are usually not expecting to see a person Vaping(if all the hide and do it is real). I just explain I can't help as I Quit smoking with the aid of a Personal Vaporizer. This usually gets a little attention and if they seem interested, we talk. It not, they go on their merry way, no harm - no foul.

It's funny that a couple of you guys mentioned not having a lighter. That's one aspect of vaping that, believe it or not, I'm having a little trouble getting used to. I've smoked since I was 12 years old, and always carried a lighter. Over the past several years I have accumulated an enormous collection of lighters, mostly vintage Zippos, quite a few vintage Scriptos, and a lot of butanes. It's hard for me not to grab a cool lighter everyday and slip it in my pocket when I leave the house. Now all the paraphenalia of vaping really helps, but I still miss that lighter. I even have a place of honor for a prized Zippo in my Vape case. Funny how habits are hard to break.
I've used some old coils to light my friends cigarette when I was making new ones haha. But back to the OP, I've had a ton of people ask me for cigs and when I tell them I don't smoke any more I usually get a weird look. A few times they kept insisting that I had some to give them and actually got a little upset when I kept saying I dont
First summer after I started vaping and quit smoking I was in a casino in Reno, whipped out my cigalike and over the course of the night had several different people at different times asking if I needed a light. That's all I got.
