Wet Box and 14500 batt questions needing answers.

I will be ordering a wetbox on monday and had a few questions. I know the wetbox takes a 14500 battery. Doesn't say whether you need protected or unprotected. Would like to know if either one is acceptable or what is the recomended one. Also what brands are people typically using...trustfire?...ultrafire?

Also nhaler and another site besides Clouds of Vapor have the wetbox for sale and say they have been modified to use LR atty's and cartos. Does anybody know if COV's have been modified to do the same?

I also am consuded about one thing...when using the wetbox with LR cartos or attys do you need to use a high drain battery?

Never use unprotected batteries unless there is a protection circuit built into the device you are placing the batteries into. I don't think any builders of wetbox type devices goes to the additional expense and effort of placing a protection circuit into their devices since it is so relatively inexpensive to purchase batteries with protection built in.

As for whether CoV modifies their wetbox to work with LR atties, I have no clue. but according to their site...
"Concerning the use of the current LR 510 cartomizers and the WetBox, these are offically "Use at your own risk!!!". We do NOT support these the way they are currently made and there is no modification we could provide for the unit to correct the problem. Therefore, we can neither recommend nor condone the use of the LR cartomizers that are coming out on the market. Should you choose to use them, the makers and vendors of the WetBox mod cannot and will not except responsibility or liability for ANY issues that may arise from their use."

In order to make it 100% compatible, they would have to down regulate the voltage to at or below 3.7 volts. A freshly charged 14500 is higher ~4.2V. Since this would cost more, take up more space, and add additional build time to down regulate, I would assume they would promote that they were LR atty compatible.
When in doubt, I prefer to err on the side of caution.

If you decide to use the high drain batts you'll need a spacer. I'm using regular protected 14500 batts in mine so no need for the spacer. I'd ask the vendor if you decide to go that route to make sure.

I don't know about the LR 510 version since I have the 808 one.

How long do the 14500's typically last? Is there a benefit to using high drain over regulars?

The bottle tip is cut by the vendors in an attempt to make it work with their atties. Seriously, all it is is a shorter needle(afaik). Not sure why, since mine shipped w/ a Boge carto and I no longer/never use the short needle(I have both). And the Boge carto gets used on the longer needle after coming back from repair.
-It's possible the LR atties don't need as much needle for juice delivery.
You don't need LiMn batteries, though their discharge ratings are pretty good for our uses. I use my Wetbox w/ AW 14500s and a Trustfire 14500, as well as the nhaler high drain 14500. They all seem fairly even to me.

The LR atty doesn't work very well with mine. Not enough juice, and the needle is to short. The juice leaks at the attys base.
I started dripping with it, then I stopped using it. I used it less than a week.

Another issue with it is the atty connector used has a vent hole used by the needle. This made it seem airy to me.

My understanding is that the Wetbox is best used with a regular 510 cartomizer and not a LR cart. Even though they are supposedly modified now to work with a LR cart, there are a number of posts that mention disclaimers along the lines of "try at your own risk". I am very used to, and comfortable with, regular 3.7v vaping, so when I bought my Wetbox, I went with regular 510 cartomizers as recommended.

Some people have posted that the Wetbox is prone to switch failure. There are many theories why. One is that people using atomizers rather than cartomizers end up leaking juice all over the switch inside the unit, causing it to eventually short out. Another is that the LR carts are the problem. One post said that the majority of the problems were not with the 510 version, but rather the 808. So, again to be safe, I went with a 510 version with regular 510 carts and the high drain 14500 battery. And a few prayers to the "reliability gods".

As for batteries, Drew at Nhaler (where I bought my Wetbox) only sells the LiMn High Drain 14500 3.7V 600mah Battery for use with the Wetbox. He includes one with the device. It's an unprotected battery, but he told me that the battery uses what he referred to as "safe chemistry" that prevents it from exploding.

Another post somewhere on this forum also says that these batteries are safe because they are designed to handle the higher drain of a LR atty. I am assuming (and we all know what that means) that the high drain battery used with a regular 510 cart should be well able to handle the drain with no chance of overheating or whatever causes some batteries to explode.

Today's the first day with my Wetbox. So far so good. As for the vaping experience with it, I could not be more pleased. It does exactly what I wanted it to do: Provides a good throat hit, lots of vapor, and virtually eliminated the need to carry around a bunch of "stuff". Of course, until I gain total confidence in this mod, I'll still carry an extra, charged RN4081 with a fresh cart with me as a backup.

To anyone considering this mod, all I can say is that it's a good value at around $50, and if it lasts only a month, it's still cheaper than the 2 cartons I would have gone through in that time. At nearly $100 a carton where I live, $50 is a steal.
