I purchased the Blu starter kit and have been vaping about 3 weeks. I ordered the med nicotine (12 mg) menthol because I was smoking the super light Carlton analogs. Anyway, when I take long, slow drags as recommended, I am getting very little vapor and no throat hit, and so, don't feel very satisfied. However, if I take short, quick puffs, I can produce a cloud of vapor and inhale.....but then I cough.

Also, my cartomizers aren't lasting very long. The advertisements say each cartomizer is equivalent to 1 pk of analogs, so I'm trying to make each one last at least a day.

My thoughts today are I need to order something else - like the Joye 510 or Ego, or maybe even a stronger nicotine level or different flavor.

Am I doing something wrong? I really want to make this work. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

First, hello and welcome to ecf...Glad you found us.
No, I don't think you are doing anything wrong.....the Blu's battery's are not very strong and really not suited to a med to heavy analog smoker. I had a starter kit and they are fine to get you started. Your attys from blu will also fit the 510 connection batteries.
If price is a consideration, look at the Riva 510 from liberty-flights. They are the same as Joye eGo, except their batteries run a little longer between charges. Be sure to click on their 20 discount at left top of page. Good company and great products. A Riva kit will get you started for around $30.00 plus 2.99 shipping and handling. They take paypal. Make sure you pick the us site, if given a choice.

Here's a good rule of thumb... any site that tells you a cartridge/cartomizer is equal to X number of cigarettes is automatically suspect in my book. If the Blu (never had one) is one of those super-duper-dinky L88 sized things with the exposed bridge atty, 1 cart won't last you long at all.... I'd probably kill one in an hour. I go through 4 loaded cartomizers a day, or thereabouts. When they give you the number in packs, you know you're dealing with shysters. Trying to "stretch" your cartos into lasting that long means you'll probably run them dry, scorch the filler, and ruin them.

I'll bet Blu didn't even tell you that they're refillable, did they? (checking website)....

Nope. Time to find another vendor. In the mean time, you might want to find some juice vendors, get some bottles of juice, SAVE THOSE BLU CARTOS & try not to run them dry, and refill them. It'll save you a ton of cash.

Joye 510, or KR808D-1/Vapor4Life Shorty - 180mah
Joye 510 w/ mega xl batteries, or KR808D_1/Vapor4Life w/ standard battery - 280mah

And the fat battery versions of above for super-long battery life plus the ability to use hotter hard-hitting LR (low resistance) atomizers and cartomizers (for 510 - Ego and Riva 510. For KR808D-1 - PigCig and Elegant Easy)

Those are the most popular slim ecigs and most of us use and recommend manual batteries. Manuals are safer from getting killed by drips (especially drips from the most popular methods of vaping - cartomizers and dripping). Manuals won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration.

I started with the Blu...and trust me, those cartos aren't a full pack of cigs. Any 510 connection will fit on the Blu batts, and their cartomizers will fit any 510...so if you get a Riva or ego (which is what I did and highly recommend) and have any cartomizers left, you can use them with your new PV. I was only getting 20-30 mins of vaping from the Blu batteries, so I ordered another starter kit...I limped along like that for a while until I could buy my eGo set up. With the ego/riva batteries...you can't go wrong. You will have EVERY 510 option out there available to you with them. And these batteries just plan last and last. They aren't huge like a flashlight, either. You'll probably hear a lot of Blu bashing, but at least it got you here, right? That's how I see my Blu experience...yep, I fell for their slick advertising, but it got me to quit!

Sounds like you’re taking long and slow drags but you should be pulling ‘harder’ so to speak; those cartomizers demand a ‘tense’ or tight pull…
When taking ‘short, quick puffs’ you are likely to cough because the vapour you produce this way is not fully consistent; meaning that your atomizing process is not complete and the ‘magic’ is not really happening…
So, take long and soft, yet ‘intense’ stronger pulls so that the coil gets to entirely cope with the liquid being atomized the right way… Keeping the vapour in your mouth for a while before inhaling may improve the process with your set up.
As for the nic… finding the right level might be tricky and translates into a process you will have to undergo… The nic levels which suited you before may differ, and bear in mind that the exact amount or the way which nicotine is delivered with PVs is not ‘officially’ known yet… So be PRAGMATICAL on this… You will learn it on the go… As a general reference… Starting somewhere 18 mg/ml might be a smart move (then being able to move up or down from there…) or having different graduation liquids and running some personal testing might be the thing to do…

Also, my cartomizers aren't lasting very long. The advertisements say each cartomizer is equivalent to 1 pk of analogs, so I'm trying to make each one last at least a day.

Ahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sorry… Aahahahahhahhhh!

Each carto of those might last ONE cigarette or a tiny vaping session, if any…Heeee!
You should ‘top them off’ every two to five ‘analog equivalents’ sessions or so…

My thoughts today are I need to order something else - like the Joye 510 or Ego, or maybe even a stronger nicotine level or different flavor.

Definetely… This BLU is ....! Get a REAL PV…

Good Luck, and keep vaping!

PS: Most of us started being ‘scamed’ by similar companies, don’t worry…!

I'm making my order with Liberty-Flights and already I have a couple of questions. I will be purchasing the Riva 510 Lite Bundle. I'm confused about e-juices already. I realize PG or VG is an individual preference, but since I don't know anything about either of them - what is your recommendation? I want to order 3 or 4 flavors, so is a 5 ml bottle of each sufficient? I also plan to use the juice with some of the old Blu cartomizers I have saved. Do I need any other materials?

Juices that only come in 100% PG and 100% VG are usually the Chinese juice. Not that great IMO but you do need some to start. I recommend you get at least 1 in VG in a flavor compatible with the others. Then you could mix it with the PG ones if you get too much irritation from the nicotine in 100% PG.

PG - thin, lets through the most TH and irritation of nicotine, makes vapor that dissipates quickly
VG - thick, dulls the TH and smooths out the irritation of nicotine, dulls flavor, vapor is thicker and more persistant

Most people here vape US juices that are offered in PG/VG blends like 70pg/30vg.

Remember to press the 20% off button on the front page of Liberty-Flights.com

You folks have been SO HELPFUL! I feel less discouraged now. I think I am going to order a Riva. I have 8 packs of Blu menthol cartomizers coming, so presumably I'll be able to use them up on my Riva. I'm sure I'll have some questions after I've decided on my order, so I'll be back.

You'll love the Riva; a former coworker got one, and it's just as good as the Ego (actually, it has a better switch). The upgrade will be like going from a Pinto to Charger.

510 cartomizers have come a long way. Going rate for most is ~$9 for a 5-pack of blanks, then you fill them with whatever juice you want. The soft-tip ones are easiest to fill, and would be good for a 'noob'... check around for those.

I hear lots of good things about 510s. I have an ego and it is way better than the 801 that I have. I'm using 24mg nicotine to get off the analogs so that might be a good place to start for you. I love my ego and recommend it to anyone. I use the tank system and so far it is working for me. I am vaping mostly pg juices. I like e-smokey treats out of Arizona. Ordered some juice from iVape too. Heard good things about their juice so I am excited to try it.

I am going to follow the wonderful recommendations here and order the Riva 510 Lite Bundle from Liberty-Flights. I'm also going to up my nicotine level from light (12 mg) to 18. The kit comes with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, 1 fast charger, 10 blank carts and an atomizer cone. Do I need anything else - like a syringe to fill the cartridges? Also, should I order an extra battery and atomizer at this time? What's an atomizer cone, by the way?

I intend to use up all my Blu cartomizers with my new Riva. Do I need anything special to be able to do that.

One more question - I need to order several flavors. What ratio of PG/VG does everyone recommend? Also, I've browsed the different vendors and I can't find one who sells only 5mg-10mg of the juices with a combination of pg/vg.

Help again, please?

You don't need anything special to use your Blu atomizer and juice on a 510 connection--just screw it on and vape. You may want to pick up an additional atty, the shipping costs will be the same.
There are lots of vendors who offer juice in mixtures of pg/vg. I personally use a 50/50 mix. Best of both imo.
FreedomsmokeUSA comes to mind....You can pick up a couple of 5ml to start so you can see what flavors you like. Their everyday discount is 10% with code freedomsmokeusa.
Also VelvetVapors and Purevape. check those too.
Good luck, let us know how its going.
