Voltage x Voltage / Resistance (ohms) = Watts
The wattage is ultimately what you're aiming for. Most people have a "sweet spot" around let's say 6-8w (YMMV) which can be reached with various voltage/resistance combinations. A very rudimentary way to look at it is low resistance/low volts; high resistance/high volts. The next minutiae you get into is amps, but you have to pass this class first. Here's the chart:
