Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this.... anyway, I'm trying to do some research on the ecig market in Western Europe for my degree.

I've got a fairly good grasp of who the 'big' UK brands are (Niclolites, E-lites etc etc) but am struggling to find out who the big brands are in the other main European markets such as France, German, Spain and Italy etc.

I've seen Nhoss, YES, Clopinette in France and Snoke in Germany, but cant really get a grasp for who the brand leaders are in those markets. It looks like e-liquids are much more popular in mainland Europe than they are in the UK?

Any help on the above would be very much appreciated - even if it's just pointing me in the right direction!

Cheers.

Hi,

Here is your post in a readable font - we couldn't see it. :)

I would be very careful in describing Nicolites and E-Lites as the big brands in the UK.

More people use separate pieces of hardware than ever before. Sales of e-Go batteries and clearomisers are WAY bigger than these products.

E-Lites are the biggest based solely on revenue. Their revenue is the highest because they charge the most.
They are twice as expensive as other brands for no reason. They then "use" this position to self-declare themselves the "favourite e-cig in the UK" to sell more e-cigs.

Are you doing a project on Vaping, OR are you do a project on capitalism?

Thanks for the replies! I'm looking at what will be the 'creative destroyers' in the next decade, one of which is thought to be e-cigs, also 3D printing, cancer immunotherapy etc...

By size, I mean broadly speaking, their market share, i.e. their revenues. Also, their routes to market (direct retail, distributors, multiples), and how well distributed each of the brands are.

My understanding is that, at least in the UK, a number of businesses source the product from an emerging market, i.e. China where it is manufactured and the IP is held, brand it and sell it/distribute it in the respective domestic market. Please correct me if this is wrong!

Hmm, Economics.

You do know the government are hell bent on regulating e-cigs. NONE of the brands on the market would get approval.

It could be all over in 2016 or sooner.

The market share of the brands you call "big" will fall regardless. Over 80% of smokers have now tried e-cigs. Many smokers have made up their mind. Those using the "big" brands tend to look elsewhere sooner or later. Unless the price of the products you mention falls dramatically, they are doomed.

Nearly all the mainstream products come from China, whether "brand" (Nicolites) or "type" (eGo ecig, clear tank).

As for creative destruction, there really isn't much to destroy. It's not the same as industry or machines. The biggest losers in the economic game (if ecigs survive) will be the Tobacco companies and the Pharmaceutical firms that sell the "magic" cure (NRT)..

Oh, and the UK economy will suffer beyond recognition if even 25% of smokers quit for Vaping.
