I'm curious about what the smoking rules are like in your city or town, and how you would feel if they are applied to vaping in the future....

I live in NYC, where there is no smoking anywhere in any restaurant, bar or workplace. You can't smoke at a concert, a ballgame, most parks, or in any public building, including hotels (unless you have a designated smoking room). A beach ban is in the works now. The only exception I know of is a "cigar lounge" where you can buy and smoke cigars, but not cigarettes...go figure! Personally, I don't vape where analogs aren't allowed, so it's not an issue to me...as long as they don't try to ban them altogether! What are your thoughts on this???

To my knowledge, NYC leads the nation in anti-smoking hysteria, but California isn't far behind. Most of what you describe applies here, although a bill to outlaw smoking at state parks & beaches was vetoed by Schwarzenegger--a cigar enthusiast--last May (it's banned by some local beach cities anyway, the Governator notwithstanding). Apartment dwellers are finding few places they can call home and smoke.

The only relief for CA analogers is within the Indian Casinos, where there's a curious smoker's revenge: non-smokers find themselves limited to small non-smoking mini-casinos.

I'm in NJ, vaping is included in "no smoking/smoke free workplace" legislation. Other than that it's pretty much the same fascist nonsense as everywhere else.

I don't pity smokers anymore though, there's obviously a better way but they choose not to look for it. I discovered e-cigs pretty much when I decided that I was tired of the way cigs made me feel and wanted a "safer" cigarette. I'm just some dope, if I can find out about e-cigs, so can everybody else.

CASAA really needs the help of all ecig users. Regional representatives are badly needed. We all need to donate what we can to the IVAQS project. This is very important to all of us. Go to the CASAA website and join, and decide if you want to be a representative. The information on the IVAQS project will be at this website. Just click the link. If you can donate, please do. Thanks

I'm living in Texas right now but I'm Canadian. You really can't smoke anywhere but outside (well away from building entrances) and in your own home or car. When they first started introducing the smoking ban they initially cut out all smoking on public patios. I worked at a bar at the time and it was soooo embarrassing to tell out-of-towners that they had to go INSIDE for a cigarette. Not to mention that during the summer that year, British Columbia was ravaged by forest fires and the thick smoke travelled all the way to Alberta. So there I stood, in a haze of smoke, telling smokers to leave the haze of smoke and go inside to...uh...smoke.

I think that vaping will begin/or continue to be included in the bans because of the stigma associated with the "puff" on exhale. People are extremelly sensitive to any possibility that you might be putting them in danger and the idea that vapor is in the same boat as second-hand smoke is going to gain momentum unless information is put out there in a big way. It's just very hard to do. Thank you Luisa, for the info on CASAA and I completely agree with your post.

In Alaska, you can basically smoke anywhere you want aside from inside public buildings. Smoking is still very socially acceptable here, and although many restaurants don't allow smoking anymore, you can still smoke at all of the bars. The only place that I can think of that you can't really smoke here is on hospital grounds. Times are changing, and Alaska will catch up with the no smoking trend sooner or later.
