I'm curious about what the smoking rules are like in your city or town, and how you would feel if they are applied to vaping in the future....

I live in NYC, where there is no smoking anywhere in any restaurant, bar or workplace. You can't smoke at a concert, a ballgame, most parks, or in any public building, including hotels (unless you have a designated smoking room). A beach ban is in the works now. The only exception I know of is a "cigar lounge" where you can buy and smoke cigars, but not cigarettes...go figure! Personally, I don't vape where analogs aren't allowed, so it's not an issue to me...as long as they don't try to ban them altogether! What are your thoughts on this???

I think there's a separate part of the forum for this type of discussion.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe NY is trying to ban e-cigs.

I also read about the NY bill, but it didn't get to the senate floor for this year. Hopefully it will be buried or rewritten before it shows up again. From what I've been looking at since I started vaping, we have a lot of allies and momentum on our side, and I think we'll be ok as far as a total ban is concerned. I hope I'm right on this cause I really love my Ecig

In Santa Monica, it's pretty harsh. No smoking even in outdoor/sidewalk areas of restaurants, no smoking at all in a large open air shopping district called Third Street Promenade. No smoking on the beach or in any parks. The latest is no smoking on balconies or patios of apartments. No smoking within 25 feet of any doorway or window of any apartment. So yeah, if you pay rent, oh well, you still can't smoke out on your balcony. There is talk that the city would like to ban all smoking in any rental unit. I don't know how they are gonna do that, but that seems the direction that all of this is moving.

Suffolk County, NY (Long Island) banned vaping in all of the same places where smoking was banned. Albany County is in the process of doing the same thing. After that happens, it will only be a matter of time before all of New York State either bans vaping in public places or bans e-cigs altogether. I've written my state and local legislators, and I've done what I could to try to educate them on the potential benefits of vaping for people who are hopelessly addicted to cigarettes, but New York politicians don't tend to listen to their constituents. A big part of the problem is the fact that NY generates a LOT of money through excessive and unfair cigarette taxes. E-cigs cut into that revenue, and as they become more and more popular (it's a $100 million business, nationwide), NY State will lose more and more revenue.

It's sad that the people we elect to act in our best interests would rather see us smoke than vape.

I'm from Queens, myself, and I couldn't agree with you more! In any case, thanks for reminding me that I need to write those dedicated public servants anyway!! I've put together some info for them...just haven't gotten them out yet. Happy Vaping!!!!
