I'm not sure if it is my place to ask. But the whole reason why I want to get into DIY is to save money. But honestly, even with recipes, I haven't found any flavorings yet that can really beat the brands. Brands like Epic juice, Halcyon, and Fuzion Vapor. I know that Fuzion uses TPA, but even so, I can't imagine something like that coming from a blend of TFA flavoring. So what do the "real" companies use for flavoring? Do they make their own (that would be too difficult)? Even though I can make my own juice, I still find myself buying juice too often.

Thing is the are so many flavor manufactures and sources.

Mount Baker Vapor uses Flavor West and they say so on thier site . Mom and Pop state that they blend their own however they do not list thier sources. Hagen is used by Hagen , The Flavor Appretiance and Lor Anne are used by many and there are others.

While many ejuice vendors may use a blend of flavors from the same producer(s) non of them list the combination of flavor or percentages used.

There is likely a 1,000 % or more mark up on many ejuices and thus the recipe for these are very proprietary .

Nearly all of it is exactly the same thing we are using.

I had two grandmothers and both could make apple pie. Each used the same ingredients. One made a good apple pie. The other made an apple pie that would bring thoughts of killing the rest of the family at the table for a chance at a second piece. (The grandmother who made the amazingly wonderful apple pie made sure I never had those thoughts because she would make two pies. One for everybody and one just for me.)

I am that grandmother. Excellent skills in the kitchen, everything from gourmet dishes to plain old down home fare. But I can't seem to make good ejuice for SQUAT! Very discouraging. :(

For some odd reason I'm that cook now myself. (You'd think it would be my mother since she was the great-cook's daughter or even my sister...) I started DIY to make one taste I couldn't find from vendor juice. It took me 5 months to discover how to make that one flavor.

Granted I made some good stuff along the way, but I discovered most of what I knew about cooking was useless. Also had to train myself to take notes and use my notes too. I never use a recipe or write anything down when I make something new when I'm cooking.

When I'm cooking it makes perfect sense what has to go with what to make what I want. When mixing it still seem strange what has to go with what to make it right. The addition of raspberry to make watermelon taste like watermelon comes to mind...how does that make any sense? Basically had to start doing weird flavoring combinations, that don't make sense to my nose at the time, and rediscovering how flavors combine. I've never thought poorly of vendors who charge a pretty penny for their wares because there is much more in those bottles than just the components.

That is so funny that you mention that. Myself and my wife make a mean pumpkin pie and every holiday we make it for the family then bake a separate one just for my son who is a pumpkin pie hound and can't get enough.

Great thoughts. Is their any vendor on Planet Earth that will sell ME QUALITY EXTRACTS suitable for ejuice mixes? Details would be most appreciated.

:)

» [Concentrated Flavorings]

He started off selling the finished e-liquid product and now is also selling them as flavor extracts. I bought eight of them but haven't tried them yet.

ETA: Actually, he started selling nicotine, then added DIY supplies (no flavors), then made his own e-liquid, and is now selling the concentrates he uses for his e-liquids.

I'll go out on a limb and say they advantage a vendor has its research and development. You have to assume they have a huge bottle of every flavor they can think of (unlike many diyers), and don't blink at mixing up 30 batches at a time to figure out the best, say, strawberry banana with just the right sweetness and accents.
Lurking here for a while, it seems like the most confident diyers are the people who have dropped a grand and take the time to experiment and refine, while a lot of us buy a dozen flavors and struggle to get it right by the second batch.

TLDR, I don't think it's magic or super secret ingredients so much as lots of trial and error.
