As the thread says, what do we exhale in the air when we vape?

My wife complains that she gets sore throats and coughs, especially when going to bed / waking up first thing in the morning, and she thinks its the vapour.

Me? I defend like mad!

Anyway, I'm just a bit concerned since she is in her 6th month of preggy now.

Does anyone have an idea?

If this has been posted before, I am sorry, and please refer me there.

Thanks

My wife just had our son about 10 days ago and I err on the side of caution and will not use the esmoker anywhere near him. Unless you see an unbiased lab report that can verify it is 100% safe I'd definitely not go near your pregnant wife with it.

Think of it this way, you will be sacrificing for the next 20+ years for your son or daughter anyway, so might as well start now :)

Mad--No one knows what is exhaled as you know and she might be hyper sensitive to PG. Have you tryed vaping VG?. I wish I could come up with a defense for you, but as she is pregnant--there is none until they do studies. --Sun:confused:

Thanks for the input. It didn't cross my mind about the VG / PG sensitivity thing!
So I guess what we inhale, is what we exhale as well?

I'm going to be safe from now on. Stop vaping in the same room as my wife..
Its very true its worth the 9 month sacrifice rather than payin for it later..

Mad--I know its a bummer--matter of fact first one person I have heard getting the "boot" --but then again, the pregnancy--do not want to risk anything there. Anyway, you can always vape here with us on the Fourm--no boots here---Sun:thumb:

In a house.
I've asked the same question before but could'nt get a definitive answer.
As we don't know exactly what we are Inhaling we cannot say what we are exhaling.

When i was asked by someone what was the "smoke" that was coming out of my mouth was I first said what the Suppliers Video's and Website blurb said i.e "harmless water vapour" or words to that extent.
Now i know it's more than that i only vape in the same places that i would smoke an Analogue.
It might be safe, it might not be safe, so i am only going to put myself at risk.
It will stay that way until someone who is manufacturing this stuff has it properly and Scientificly tested and proved it. I'll probably be dead before that happens.

We're exhaling primarily propylene glycol vapor! Unless using a vegetable glycerine based liquid, then it's vegetable glycerin vapor.

Of course there are flavorings, and in some liquids a little bit of alcohol, etc, but haven't you ever looked at the proportions listed in most ingredients lists? Ususally close to 90% pg. The other ingredients are miniscule in comparison.

And don't forget Dr. Laugesen's various reports. Yes of course he's studying Ruyan liquid, but that doesn't mean we cannot extrapolate from his findings to a degree, again because the main ingredient is pg!

Update :

I didn't vape in the same room as my wife last niight, after posting this.

She didn't even attempt a cough, and slept soundly last night.
Its too early to tell, but I am feeling a bit more certain that it could be the PG / VG exhalations..

I'll keep this up and see if this stops fer good.

And thanks for the input, yvilla & deewal... its good to know that somebody is always there to share these things with...

I've been trying to avoid the Dr's health report simply because its was too long and I am too lazy...
I'm glad you pointed me to this direction again, and finally I've run through it (if not READING!)

Anyway, I've extracted the following which relates to this topic..

"Repeated exposure to inhalations of theatrical smoke, including PG, was studied by
10,11 Varughese and colleagues in 101 employees at 19 sites. They did not report propylene glycol effects separately. They found wheezing and chest tightness correlated with higher cumulative exposure to smoke over the previous 2 years. Glycol fogs in particular were associated with acute cough and dry throat. Those with greater proximity to fog source showed significantly decreased lung function."

"The mist contained propylene glycol, ethyl alcohol; nicotine and acetaldehyde were minor peaks. "

"propylene glycol vapor is bactericidal, and virucidal against airborne
aerosol particles, and is associated with reduced respiratory infections in 30 children
continually exposed to propylene glycol vapor"

And finally, the MOST important

"5. Safety of Ruyan® e-cigarette ‘smoke’ for bystanders.
Method. Analysis of published data on nicotine absorption, and informal comments of
bystanders, and observation of e-cigarette smoking indoors.
Results. Cigarette smoke is a mixture of sidestream smoke and exhaled mainstream
smoke. In constrast, the e-cigarette generates no sidestream smoke from its (artificially
lit) tip. Any exhaled PG mist visibly dissipates to vapor within seconds. Non-smoking bystanders do not find the mist unpleasant. The mist is odorless, and those close by quickly realize it does not have the odor of smoke or the irritating quality of tobacco cigarette smoke.

Comments. Inhaled nicotine in cigarette smoke is over 98% absorbed
exhaled mist of the e-cigarette is composed of propylene glycol, and probably contains almost no nicotine; and no CO. (see Figure 3.5) Lacking any active ingredient or any
gaseous products of combustion, the PG mist or ‘smoke’ is not harmful to bystanders. The ‘smoke’ or mist is not tobacco smoke, and not from combustion – no flame is lit – and is not defined as environmental tobacco smoke. E-cigarette “smoking” would be permitted under New Zealand’s Smoke-free Environments Act 1990.

Your wife might be allergic to the PG. You should try the VG formula.
