oh just supercharge it lol

On an inline six BMW engine? Naw. I like my nice perfectly flat torque curve and non-strange peaky performance and metronome-like accelerator. With a light enough flywheel, I could play a song with my gas pedal. Can't do that with a turbo or a supercharger. Although I do like a supercharger better than a turbo for autocrossing, I'd much rather have a built motor. I'm not looking for more than 320ish HP. I can get that with a built S38 easy with a mountain of torque.

I think that you will change your mind after a test drive on the 335ix...

Har! I love it to death, but I wish I could buy it now instead of when I did - the market is really soft, and there are some great bargains out there.

I had a rough start to this season - I spun a rod bearing back in May and wound up pulling the engine, took about a month to get it all back together. I hadn't attempted that before, so it was a good learning experience with plenty of sore muscles and scraped knuckles. But she's as good as new again.

We raised two boys and at one point had 9 vehicles when we lived in town. Lucky for me I have always been a car nut. Neighbors were pretty happy when we moved to the country. Our insurance company loves us ;) The boys have moved on, and we are left with my hubby's 67 Camaro (sweet!) and his 69 Ford F-??? Camper Special handed down from his dad. We love to go to car shows.
Some of my favorites that the guys have had were a 69 Harley chopper, beautiful and unique bike. Nobody on the planet, other than my son could kickstart that thing. What a work out! And a 74 Nova. I always loved the old 60's and early 70's cars that were jacked up with nice rims and LOVE the rumble of a big engine, the kind you can feel in your chest. That sound always brings a smile to my face.
My son has a 13 year old dog that still perks up when he hears a Harley, and he hasn't owned one in 5 years.
I wish I could post some pics, but I'm not real computer smart. It would take me forever to figure out. But our family pictures are dated by who had what vehicle. :)

My DD is a '06 Subaru WRX STI slightly modified with about 425hp... Nothin too crazy . Fun car for sure!... There are definitely some nice rides in here. I'll have to make sure to subscribe to this thread since cars are pretty much my #1 passion.

slightly modified..... extra 125hp of modifications? thats pretty decent, what did you do? bigger injectors? diff turbo? get it tuned?

I used to own a 97 M3 sedan with a stage 3 Active Autowerke turbo setup. A 335ix isn't going to do anything but remind me how much I hate all wheel drive.
The 335 is very different then what you remember from the 97 M3 sedan with a stage 3 Active Autowerke turbo setup. The engine performance is silky smooth. I can't figure out how can you compare the two.

The great thing about most of the inline six engines is the way you can hold rpm immediately and effortlessly with the gas pedal. Around willow springs, I used to have the gear and rpm burned into my memory for every turn. On the same track with the turbo M3, I couldn't hold the rpm anywhere because the boost would interfere and it would be a more traditional hoping things would hold through the turn type of thing rather than the drive-by-base-of-brain experience with a tuned engine. I've driven a 135i, and a 335i. I'll admit that the tiny twin turbos are silky smooth to BMW's credit. They tried very hard to make it feel like they aren't there at all. They still don't feel as good as the just as fast e46 M3 you can pick up in great shape for significantly less. I can easily get the 300hp of the current 3.0l twin turbo engines with an S38 block that has been mildly massaged with none of the extra parts to break or replace later, and no chance of peakiness or weird distant throttle response. One of the reasons I keep buying older 80's cars and upgrading them is I absolutely hate the current batch of electronic nanny devices. I want to drive the car. That's why their new cars tip the scales. More crap to break, and add weight. That and BMW hasn't made a car that looks as good as the e24 six series since. I'll put about 12 grand into this car and drive it for ten years. There's a distinct difference in the way older BMW's feel. Everything is numb now. It's like they forgot how to make cars in the late 90's.

As for awd, I just don't like any power going to my front wheels. Even with an expensive quaife setup, you still get torque steer. I want my steering wheel to serve its primary purpose which is to transmit the road surface to my finger tips while I use it to perform its secondary purpose.

I can understand now what you are saying about the cars, obviously you know cars better than I do. However , I enjoy the 09 335ix that I have. It replaced my infiniti g35x . I enjoy the car as much as I enjoy my new Super Six...

I'm not saying it's a bad car. It's not a bad car in the same way that the 2002 M5 I had for a few weeks wasn't a bad car. I didn't like the weight of it, or the V8 engine. I missed inline six, and lighter weight. After my 533i was in a hit and run, I went to a dealership. I test drove a bunch of their cars. I almost walked out with a lease on a 650i. It felt nimble, but it was a magic act that you could see through during certain maneuvers. I was about to pull the trigger on an 02 CSL when I found the sixer. Perfect body, no rust. Got it cheap. So I'm doing the brakes, suspension, diff, and engine the way I like. In the end I'll have exactly what I want. I'll end up spending more than I would have on the CSL. There's a rumor next year they are dropping manual gearboxes entirely for smg flappy paddles. After that there's absolutely zero chance I'll buy a new BMW.

Subby guy here: 2009 WRX Premium 5-door.....

LOVE IT. Can't really beat it for the money, for $23k you can outrun cars 3x as much without really batting an eye.

Loads of fun driving, I can usually pull 26mpg out of it on the highway and 22 in the city. And this thing eats mountain roads for breakfast. While I will appreciate the AWD very soon for the winter, I find launching it has a learning curve. The torque is there and it just grabs so well....you pretty much just go, when expecting to spin, as I am previously acustom to a RWD.

Oh yeah, xxxx tons of space inside.

95 Toyota Celica GT-Four. Had to get something with AWD for the winter roads in Hokkaido. They don't salt the roads here at all and there is a nice 4-5 inch thick sheet of ice on the roads all winter. Also, winter lasts about 6 months here...

This is the only pic I can find on my work PC.

Had a 89 RX7 Turbo II back home. Wanted to pick up an FD RX7 here in Japan, but gave up on that idea when I came to the Siberia of Japan.

CTS-V sports wagon FTW! First GM car that's caught my attention in many, many years. Well aside from anything with the Corvette name on it.
I saw this over the weekend. If I could afford it I'd have it in a heartbeat. It was very comfortable to sit in and nothing cheap looking about any of the interior.
