I think the opposite: it's got almost nothing in common with a cigarette, and it really doesn't make much sense to me to call it one.

Usually its just a thingy. Or a steam thingy. Or just "yep" if someone asks if it's one of them e-cig thingies. Roughly translated from Norwegian, of course.

I either say "e-cig" or use the formal name of whichever device I'm holding at the time (Provari, Hana, etc.). Nothing consistent and never any thought.

I have also referred to it as what the thing that is keeping me off the "death sticks" (Star Wars reference).
I usually use the phrase "vaping stick". Its not a very good name, I know, but it'll do for now.
My magic rabbit... Oh my vape stuff? Nicotine vaporizer. When I did the ecig look a likes I called em ecigs but now well that just seems off.

I call mine "puffer" or "puff" and sometimes "Puff the magic dragon" if I ask my child bride to hand it to me, which always starts her singing the song.

I used to use the personal vaporizer, but we have had several unflattering local news stories lately. Mostly the local police departments in and around Tulsa referring to them as personal vaporizers, vaporizers, and ecigs, and talking about how they are being used with illegal narcotics. They keep stating that "it's impossible to tell what is being smoked in them".........Really? If they can't smell the difference, they must be smokers!
The recent press coverage of our governor banning "e-cigs" on all state property hasn't helped either.

"vapers" are "Dampfer" and a "personal vaporizer" is a "Dampfe"
I like this. Dampfe. Short, two syllables, sounds nothing like 'cigarette'. I think I'll adopt this term.
(Can't see it going over big in the general community but what the heck.
