What do you say when someone comes up to you and asks you what is in your hand when you are vaping? Do you say e-cig, do you say electronic cigarette, you say personal vaporizer..

My first reaction is usually to say e-cig because it's likely they have heard of this term. However, none of the kit I have bears any resemblance to a cigarette, and I'm keen to distance myself from smoking in general. I also feel quite strongly that it's an alternative, not a substitute for smoking and e-cig ties it firmly to the latter. Having said this it hardly seems to happen anymore as vaping seems to have really hit the mainstream here in the UK. People mostly seem to know what clouds of vapor and strange devices means.

PV or personal vaporizor; and if they look puzzled, I say and point, "This is a battery box (tube), this is my atomizer with a teeny, tiny coil at the bottom of my juice tank. When I press this button, it sends current to the coil that heats up my juice to vapor which I inhale through this here tip.......Kinda like inhaling the delicious vapor coming off your homemade spaghetti sauce or luxuriating under a nice hot shower on a winter's day." If they have any more questions, I'll answer as simply as I can. :)

I usually say that it is an Ecig, or get the is that an "ecig" comment. but quickly explain the differences (if they are willing to hear) between larger devices and smaller starter kits. The iPV I usually lug around has been sitting at home lately but it sure got some looks!

I find that if I say APV, Mod, or PV they just look at me funny. Say Ecig and they know what you are talking about.

Normally I'll say ecig as its the most general term and then depending on the person asking I'll go into more detail I normally have smokers asking me about it and "does it really work" I am always open to anyone curious and will make time to explain things to whatever degree they want to know. In my two and a half years vaping I've only met one person with a completely closed mind everyone else has been easy to talk to and easy to convince of the benefits had some good chats with some very nice people thanks to vaping.

I usually say "This is my way of not smoking" - usually with a massive "I've not smoked for almost 2 years, would ya just look at me" smile.

If they ask questions from there or continue the conversation I might use the term e-cig or vaporizer depending on their own knowledge.

I've usually found that most people approaching are friendly and genuinely interested in what I am doing and I respond in kind.

Only once have I had any type of negative reaction and that was from a drunk in a bar in Corpus Christi. He kept shouting that I was a fake cigarette smoker at me and I kept saying yes I am and smiling at him.

I let them know that these are popular on my home world and if you see others using it, they are from my planet as well. We plan on inhabiting this planet for a long time because the music and sports are both so interesting and diverse.

Just kidding (or am I?). I usually say eCig, followed by electronic cigarette because most seem to not understand simply 'eCig.' And if need be, I'll elaborate by dropping in vaping so that seed is firmly planted. Depends on how long the conversation is. On the home world, a conversation under 15 earth minutes is extremely rare.
