This occurred to me as my daughter and I were watching Saturday morning cartoons. I tried not to smoke anywhere near her when I was still smoking, and as I reached for my ecig I hesitated. Granted since she's 6 she'd still look at it and think of a cigarette, but what about those of you with older kids? I definitely don't want her to pick up smoking, so I'm hoping it doesn't spark a thing of "Well, I remember mommy smoking when I was younger, so it must be ok...". Is there a way to explain to a small child what it is? I mean, I don't imagine so, but I'm curious.

I've got 4 girls at home all under the age of 9. My older three all knew that I smoked regular cigarettes outside. I do vape in the house and around them now. The older two (6 and 8) already knew from school and other kids how bad smoking analogs was for me so they constantly pressured me about it. Now I think they look at it as a great alternative. They've been very supportive, and I don't think they view it as something they want to try. I've been pretty clear to them about what it is (ecig) and why I think it's different or better than analogs. They've noticed the lack of smell on my clothes too. Everyone's situation is different though.

Stick with it! Best of luck!

My 23 yr old daughter will be here later this evening. She is moving back home after 2-1/2 yrs away @ school. She was a light smoker for a while ... 5 or so cigs a day. She says she has not smoked for a while due to lack of funds. It will be interesting to see what she thinks/does about vaping.

I'd rather see her do neither. But it's possible once she is around the e-cig, it may spark an interest. I don't want her to smoke ... that's for sure. If she wants to vape, I'll certainly let her try ... but I really do not want to be responsible for re-igniting a nic addiction.

I'm torn. She's a grown-up now ... but ... well, time will tell.

Well.. I don't have any kids, yet. I am only 19 (23 when I go into a bar with no ID ;]) but I'll give you the reverse of what you asked. My mother loves my 510 and thinks it's such a great idea. My dad... well, he's not too fond of his addiction and thinks he has the will power to quit, so he's just gonna go cold turkey. Neither of them disapprove of this either, and they're both very curious and intrigued with it. I haven't met a single person who looks at vaping negatively (yet).

When I do finally settle down and get kids, I'll let you know.

our kidlet (13 year old boy) is beyond thrilled that hubby is switching to e-cigs. he (kidlet) has had MAJOR anxiety about hubby's smoking, begging him to quit for ages.

he has, though, asked if he could "try it too." he got a big fat NO, and a more clear explanation of what an e-cig is, and what nicotine is... so then he asked if he could try the no-nicotine kind - got another NO and an explanation about habits, apperances etc.

argh. kids.

interesting topic..
i dont 'vape' around my kids at home.
the only time i will/would do it is driving in the car with them.
and i still crack my window just in case.
my older kids (15 and 17) are happy im doing it rather than actually smoking
for nothing other than it doesnt stink like regular cigs.
my 8 year old appreciates it too, but at the same time, is facinated by the different colors and flavors.. (vapor4life)
that kind of bugs me because i dont want her to see it as cool, or neat or whatever..

so.. mostly positive with the kids imo

Yeah, I just had to have that conversation a few minutes ago. It's harder to explain than I thought it might be, trying to tell her the difference between cigarette and ecig, how mommy is healthier with this, but it's not healthy for a kid... Going by the look she gave me, I sound like a hypocrite. Which I can't blame her for

Heh, not as easy to find bad things about pv's as it is with cigarettes, huh?

I wouldn't worry too much about them at that age though. I went to DARE camp at an age far too young for it to have effect and needless to say, it didn't work. Its the teenage mind that you have to reel in...

I'm 21, and what really grinds my gears is the fact that my mother and my sister are the only ones who aren't impressed. Now when I say something about my health or my ever improving sense of smell it just seems like I'm bragging because they couldn't care less. Just kinda frustrating, the two people I care about most are still killing themselves with tobacco. :(

That'd be my grandparents :( I offered for both of them to just try my ecig, and both declined. Neither could come up with a good reason for declining trying it, they just 'didn't want to.'

'Tis crap, it is.

Nobody want's to be told what to do...if they want to quit..it'll be a good time to discuss it then...until then you are spinning your wheels...even those of us that want to quit still have issues with quitting. Just give them love they will come around...when they are ready.

Yes, I vape around my teenager, and yes she has wanted to try it. I told her no and explained why. I refuse to worry about the whole "exposing/enticing children by flavors" thing. Kids must be made to understand that some things are only for adults and that's just the end of it. I don't refuse to drink flavored alcohol in front of her because "it may entice her" to drink. She understands that alcohol is an adult beverage, period.
