I don't live with my daughter, she's a couple hours away from me raising my two grandsons, but she is thrilled that i now vape and not smoke! I smoked for almost 40 years and never intended to quit, it just happened when I picked up my first PV.
She loves the fact i don't stink of cigs anymore too.

This occurred to me as my daughter and I were watching Saturday morning cartoons. I tried not to smoke anywhere near her when I was still smoking, and as I reached for my ecig I hesitated. Granted since she's 6 she'd still look at it and think of a cigarette, but what about those of you with older kids? I definitely don't want her to pick up smoking, so I'm hoping it doesn't spark a thing of "Well, I remember mommy smoking when I was younger, so it must be ok...". Is there a way to explain to a small child what it is? I mean, I don't imagine so, but I'm curious.

As long as she somewhat understands what addiction is, and that what you are doing now versus what you were doing is better, then thats a start.

Just kinda frustrating, the two people I care about most are still killing themselves with tobacco. :(

Unfortunately I have to agree with that. My gf is a smoker, and she has an 8yo son. She's been a smoker on and off for years, and is trying to quit. She sees my PV and while I can get her to sample flavors I make for opinions, she doesn't take it seriously and won't switch to it. So far she's still a pack a day, less some, but not too often.

Yes, I vape around my teenager, and yes she has wanted to try it. I told her no and explained why. I refuse to worry about the whole "exposing/enticing children by flavors" thing. Kids must be made to understand that some things are only for adults and that's just the end of it.

Bravo. Parenting, not all these insane efforts to keep children shielded from things... Yes, you shouldn't do certain things in front of kids, or allow them access to things. But kids need to learn that there are things that adults do that kids shouldn't. Hiding it from them doesn't teach them.

As far as her little boy, he's been interested in them ever since my best friend got his blu but I think at this point he's accepted that it's an adult thing, and not a kid thing. He asked if he could try it once, and I explained to him that even though it's better for me than cigarettes, it's still dangerous and he shouldn't touch/mess with it. Most of the times that doesn't work with him, but he seems to respect it; especially since I explained to him (while I was diying) that the liquid is very dangerous and could make him very sick if he got any on him. So far so good....

my son thinks my PV is awesome, I quit smoking!! (he's 10) and he's been bugging me for about 7 or 8 years to stop. I smoked for ~25 years, and I haven't had a smoke since april 12th '09. my wife turned me on to PV's and she won't use them anymore, cause she's allergic to PG and she likes the E9's but no one I've been able to find makes a VG e9 cart, or sells a blank E9 cart for me to fill. I have 5 neices and nephews and they all love the fact that I don't stink anymore. I've never hid my smoking from anyone once I hit 18 ( I consider it an insult to hide the fact that you smoke from children ), and I refuse to hide it now. but they all love that I use a PV instead of smoking, even though other members of the family still smoke like my wife, brother in law, father in law, other brother in law, brother, sister in law, etc.. the only place I don't vape is at work, as I work retail now, so I'm in the open dealing with the public constantly. I DO vape right outside the front door a lot, and the other workers there are way jealous of me, cause I can walk out the door, take 2 hits, and walk back in and not stink, or have to put out a .... and waste a smoke.

Well, I just got mine this afternoon, but so far I'm 9 hours with a cigarette! My 5 year old is pleased by the concept - he's been threatening to throw out all the cigarettes for about 2 years. He also tells me they are stinky, and that I'll "turn green and die". Something he saw on an old cartoon . . .

However, he also is fascinated by the blue light (and tickled that it can't burn). And did want to try it. So we had to have a talk - no, it's still not good for me, but it won't make me sick. And it won't make you cough. And it's grownups only!

I'm wondering if my kids are weird none of them ever asked to try my pv they are 6, 8 and 9. I wouldve looked at them like they were crazy if they had and asked if they'd lost their little minds. It prob wouldve freaked me out if they had ever asked. Been vaping since march of 09 so I doubt they will ever ask that nutty question.

My daughter and I just had another talk about it - She picks it up and goes:

"Mommy, what IS this thing? It looks like a black cigarette."
"Well, it's an electric thing, sort of like my phone. It helps me to make sure I'm not smoking anymore."
"Oh. Is it gross?"
"INCREDIBLY. It's the yuckiest tasting stuff ever ever ever ever ever. Don't touch it."
"Ew. Ok."

And that was the end of it :D

My daughter thinks they are goofy although she is glad I quit smoking. She's just tired of me talking about them and telling her about all the new goodies I just bought. My grandson calls them my fake cigarettes and is happy grandma quit. He wishes his daddy would quit but daddy thinks they are stupid. Oh well his loss. My granddaughter isn't old enough to care yet and my soon to be born new granddaughter will have the pleasure of not ever seeing me smoke or smell the nastiness.:D
