....so that vapers wouldn't have to play hide-and-seek? What do you think?

For starters, stop playing hide 'n seek. I think that's really a big part of the problem...people going around sneaking vapes here and there look suspicious and shady and it just adds to the perception that something "bad" is going on. A lot of people have never even heard of an e-cig, let alone seen someone vaping. Personally, I'm proud of the fact that I'm now vaping rather than polluting my lungs and the lungs of those around me with analogs and I have no problem vaping anywhere that I would have smoked my analogs in the past.

I think it takes an educated public. Of course there are going to be ANTZ here and there no matter what happens, but I think the majority of the population would accept it as normal if they saw it on a regular basis and had a little knowledge from someone that's actually been successful at it. I make it a point to vape in public anywhere is seems reasonable to openly enjoy my vape. I "stealth" anywhere a huge cloud would be distracting... like at a show in the planetarium or the movies... and I refrain from vaping anywhere I would consider it disrespectful, like church or a funeral service. If we don't vape in public, the public won't ever have a chance to become educated. If we're disrespectful about it, the public will be left with a bad impression. We need to vape openly but responsibly.

Even the appearance of smoking will never be "Sociably Accepted"
At best, in time, vaping will become sociably tolerated because the
public will learn that there is no harm and there is
NO SUCH THING AS 2ND HAND VAPOR health concerns.

BP and their employees at the FDA will continue to put out
negative propaganda about PVs ... Money trail thing ...
Nothing to do with health.

On the other hand ... IF BP got into the game ...
The FDA would IMMEDIATELY proclaim PVs to be
the best thing since sliced bread.
:p

That’s what I used to think. But I don't see in black and white anymore. Vapers here have described so many tricky situations, where it just makes more sense to stealth vape a hit or two. These stories have made me realize it’s not always that simple. I’m a big fan of „vaping bold in public“ idea and I think that whereever suitable vapers should vape openly, because that's the only way to educate the rest of the world. But at least for now, every situation should be evaluated and I can understand why it sometimes makes more sense to stealth vape.

I must say, that I’m so much hoping that stealth vaping will someday just mean not blowing out clouds of vapor where it's not suitable, instead of sneaking. But for now, it’s hard to say that one solution fits all. It just takes a bit more time before vaping will become accepted or at least tolerated enough.

All in all, I agree it takes educated public and it seems to me that there is no one else out there doing it for us. It is entirely up to us. Just like JENerationX said, there will be nay sayers here and there, but most of the people are sensible and there's a lot we can do to make a good impression to most of the people. So, keep up the good work.:vapor:

I agree with Petrodus...it probably never will be socially acceptable, merely tollerated. I think most people, for the most part will always associate vaping with smoking and therefore derelict behavior. Heck, even some of my closest friends don't get it..."why don't you just quit altogether?" Of course, they've never picked up an analog in their life, so they have no earthly idea what they're talking about...but their perception is that I'm basically doing the same thing I was doing, just using a different device to do it with.

All in all, I think we have to be good ambasadors. Yes, boldly vape in public, but don't be obnoxious about it. Don't vape while you're huddled amongst crowds of people like movie/concert theaters, waiting in lines, crowded bleachers, etc. There has to be some degree of respect shown for others if there is to be any respect shown to us.

i think that I read somewhere that the FDA considers the ejuice tobacco which makes me want to cry, therefore it is not allowed onsite at work, and i have to go into the smoke shack. Also, for whatever reason people assume that I am smoking drugs?? I could understand if it smelled like drugs, or I had a potleaf on it (as dumb as that would be). plus, my hypocondriact aunt said that she thought she was getting dizzy from the vapor and that there had to be nicotine in the vapor... ugh!!

^^^Ignorant people, as well as down right stupid people far outweigh the informed. I am fortunate that my work allows me to vape in my office...but they don't want me vaping in the "common areas" of the building as it would likely result in numerous complaints from certain ignorant people. I comply because I like being able to vape in my office; I'm far more productive these days than when I was taking a smoke break every hour or so.

I think that there is a saying that goes to the tune that a person is smart, but people are :censored: dumb! I have noticed that when one person sees me vaping, they nicely ask me what I am doing, and seem interested, but when there is a group of people they try making fun of me, can you effing believe it? I work with adults (over18) so I just remind them that I don't have a nasty hack and smell like an ashytray :)

Long term studies need to be done and results need to be publicly shown so everyone will be informed/educated.

It would be nice if things worked that way, but the way the media is, they take even a positive study and twist it. "E-cigs not completely safe" gets published far more frequently than "E-cigs proven to be much safer than smoking" ever will.

I briefly discussed vaping with the group Tobacco Free Florida. Needless to say, they oppose vaping (just like every other anti-tobacco movement). I told them that I've never had someone come up to me and tell me to stop vaping. They claimed that that is because people don't know the dangers of "secondhand vapor." I didn't even bother coming back at such an ignorant statement.
