I'm a new member here and don't know jack diddly about vaping except what I learned here. I have found most members to extremely helpful. I do research all info I'm interested in further though. I have found misinformation being put out but that will happen in any internet forum. Thing is, the misinformation is from senior members as well as newbies. For instance, just read a thread about battery safety in this forum. Plenty of misinformation from senior members there. I have 36 years in the electronics field so consider myself an expert but after reading this thread I wouldn't dare correct the senior members. I have one question, when are you no longer a newbie?
Hope yall don't take this personally because I still have a ton of questions about vaping I need answered. :)

Okay contrary to everything my avatar stands for, I admit I started this thread to get more vets involved in the New Member Forum and to open some eyes to the fact the fight isn't just with the antz, we need to keep our own up to speed also.

*looks down to the floor in shame* I'll head over there now. I've been busy drinking mojitos over at the Provari Saloon....

How do we expect the general public to accept vaping when so many vapers are ignorant of what we do? The New Members Forum here scares me for our future.
The New Members Forum encourages me for our future. I spent my first two months as an ECFer there, and hardly any place else. Although a newbie myself, I enjoyed helping here and there whenever I could. But what kept me coming back over and over was the amazement at how fast the vaping community must be growing.

I saw many brand new members coming through every week, sometimes so many I couldn't even keep count. Considering that many of the world's new vapers don't even come here, for each new account I saw I realized that there must be many others in the world who started vaping around the very time that new ECF member did.

This place gets so many new members per day that sometimes it seems like vaping is taking over the planet. Yes, I know I'm exaggerating to myself, but it does make me excited. The vast majority of new vapers seem to be ex-smokers or soon-to-be ex-smokers. Doing all that math to see how many lives are going to be saved, or at least improved, would make my head spin. But it also makes me hopeful to the point of being giddy.

No matter how lost in the "vaping forest" a new member may be, they're here now. They've asked for help in our forums, and in that first page of answers by experienced ECFers I very often see the new member's understanding improve. We get the chance to help them not be lost anymore. From what I've seen, usually it works. And yes, sometimes it doesn't. There will always be some people who will stay lost no matter how often we point out the way. That's just humanity. But even though I've only been here three months so far, I see most new ECF members actually gain knowledge. They will most likely go on to become expert vapers. And a portion of them will, in turn, help others new to vaping in the New Members Forum.

Something that comes along every now and then in human history and saves millions of lives is a HUGELY IMPORTANT event. I'd call it a miracle, in fact. Vaping is a miracle. And for every new ECF member that comes along, no matter how knowledgeable or how lost, I feel a deep appreciation. One that overrides any frustration I may feel about any recurring lack of knowledge in one category or another.

The New Members Forum only makes me feel excited about our future. So new and old alike, VAPE ON! :)

Corrections are always welcome, just be polite, and correct the post without "attacking" the poster, if that makes sense. Having references to backup your correction is always a good idea too :)

Can this thread be closed already? Seriously it's just bringing negativity to the community and bashes and puts off new vapers aka "noobs" like myself. I will always consider myself a Noob because I will never know everything there is to know about vaping.

I'm sorry, what exactly are you referring to? No one here is noob bashing, even Vermonster clarified himself in a later post that it's not the New Members that scare him, but the slacking of the "veteran" members in giving help to the newbies. Perhaps Verm should edit his initial post?

I was a noob on here yacking how great Blu was, until I found carto tanks. I just recently "grew a set" and started doing RBA's with single 1.8-2.0 ohm coils with 30 gauge wire and 18650 batteries after much research, cursing, and religiously testing on the ohms checker. Rip Trippers makes it look easy, and it blows my mind seeing noobs on here wanting to go from Evods to micro coils, then asking if 18350 is the right battery! How about rebuilding the Evod heads? The original idea behind RBAs was to make vaping more inexpensive.

As far as I know noob NOOB and newbie are all the same. Correct me if I'm wrong I've only spoken English for almost 65 years.

Same here klynnn. Maybe it depends on where people have hung out online over the years. I'm sure some groups do put their own meanings on terms that are not in general use.

OTOH I also don't think in terms of newbies, or gender, or any other groups of people so I am probably not as aware of this stuff as some people are. I've seen some people new to vaping who get it almost right away and I've also seen some very experienced vapers who don't get it. IMO everyone should be treated as individuals and we should leave the generalizing out of it. Most of the time that is what happens around here :thumb:

Speaking as a " noob " I think the one thing that really bothers me is those who don't want to take them time to learn the hobby. They saw a youtube video of someone blowing huge clouds and now have tunnel vision. They want to sub ohm and their first device to be a stingray and an RBA. Doesn't matter that they know absolutely nothing about Ohm's law.

I want a mech too. And to get into building my own coils, dripping etc.

But I prefer to research and " understand " it all...as opposed to jumping in feet first and blowing my nose of my face

Yankez, that's called maturity. When you're old enough to understand that cloud chasing should be researched first before diving head first.

Thanks Eebant. It's also called being old enough not to fall for the hype / fad .

I started vaping as a means to end a 35 yr smoking habit ( which I've yet to completely kick ) . But after joining ECF I've come to see the hobby part of it and am itching to up my game. But all in good time. ;)

Five years ago the average age of US was much older. Now we have more in our army but they are much younger.
Who know how this will work out. I know that back in the day we were not as arrogant but we were a much smaller group. I think it is up to the younger/newer members to keep this legal for us. JMO

Of course. but you gotta think a little further down the line. Most danger stories are sub-ohmers, Im one myself just so you know lol. You just can't be biased to your likings if your a subohmer yourself in these political topics. Sub-Ohming was a small community until recently.

I'm still relatively new (haven't even quit smoking completely). I think the new forum is frustrating. Too many fans of the VVmod of the day that think there is one right setup for everybody just because it worked for them. I'm getting into 14500 regulated/VV devices and finally starting to actually enjoy vaping. But it took a lot of exploration and months to figure that out. Everything is "provari/innokin" this or that on the new members area. I spent so much time looking at those sorts of things, trying them out in shops, and feeling frustrated by the selection. I think I would have given up on anything bigger than a cig-a-like if those were my only choices.
