"Mostly Classics" has been my DBA for the last 30 years. I deal in postage stamps and postal history for collectors. I also provide philatelic consulting and album page typesetting.

My avatar is a closeup of a meerschaum pipe in my collection. It's a Turkish interpretation of an Austrian interpretation of Santa Claus -- the basic and traditional design goes back well over a century to the Viennese meerschaum carvers. Since shortly after World War II, Turkey has made it illegal to export their block meerschaum, so all meerschaum carving is now done by Turkish artists.

Here's an example of 19th century Austrian meerschaum carving:

Incredibly, she has remained unsmoked since 1898.

In high school, my buddies decided my earlobes were akin to the Johnnie Gregory mudflaps commonly equipped on 18 wheeled tractor-trailer rigs and started calling me Mudflap. When I graduated and walked across the stage to receive my diploma, a dozen of them all hollered "Mudflap!" in unison and my grandmother gave them trouble for it. It's one of many fond memories I have of her, so I've been using it as a forum handle since the late 90's.

Hoosier=A person from Indiana.

The term Hoosier has been around longer than the state and there are 4 different stories we learn in Indiana History as to where the term could have possibly come from, but nobody really knows. Not only do we not know, we don't care too much. At that time a "Hoosier" was usually stereotyped as someone who drank hard and argued with passion.

It has since come to be associated with basketball and racing.

Since I am from Indiana, drink bourbon straight, enjoy arguing, play and watch basketball, and am a "gearhead", it just fit too well to not use it.

I remember that Gil always starting trouble :)

Ok Rob, you can't come in here without telling us your story, well maybe you can but inquiring minds want to know :)

I joined ECF for one purpose, at first any way. That was to become an ex smoker. I learned while perusing the site before I joined that cigarettes were refered to as analogs, so chose Xanalog to remind myself that I am an ex smoker. After being a part of the ECF for several months, I realized that this is a social forum as well and I have a lot of friends here that help me remain an Xanalog. Thank you all :)

Mine is often misinterpreted as AM NATE with an extra n, but it's actually been my forum name since I joined the Air Force in 2005. It stands for AIRMAN Nate, as the abbreviation for the rank of airman is "amn". My first name is Nathaniel, but I generally go by Nate. I have since become a Staff Sergeant, but we in the Air Force are all airmen, from the Generals to the basic training "airman basics", so it still seemed appropriate and it's still my email address. I don't really care when someone doesn't know, but it often let's me know when I meet an Air Force member as they sometimes recognize it. It's like our own secret code, lol. I like it either way.

Mine means I'm old enough and one of the few that remember an early '70's comic book. Besides it was easy to make the cover of the first issue into an avatar.

Actually, there are more than a few of us that remember that comic :)

Mine's pretty self-explanatory. I'm old(er), and since I don't smoke, but I *do* puff, hence,
