What eJuice makers are not telling us about PG and VG

I'm hypoglycemic and I've always been curious as to why vaping sometimes causes spikes in my blood sugar and now I know why, this was almost shocking to me.

PG Propylene Glycol Nutrition Facts:

VG Vegetable GlycerinNutrition Fact

As you can see both PG and VG contain very high caloric contents, VG even has Fats and Cholesterol.

Can some of the experts please clarify as to how these specifically affect inhaling them, how much of it is absorb by our bodies along with Nicotine.

I just might quit vaping if I can't find a definitive answer for these, as with my condition can really risk being in the dark devoid of this information. Many thanks.

If you are drinking 100ml shots I am not surprised your blood sugar is spiking.

Obviously I'm not drinking 100ml shots these are measurements taken from their Nutrition Facts but my blood sugar does spike and there seems to be now denying that they have high calorie contents I just want to know how much is actually absorbed. Hopefully someone can help me understand this.

From random diabete's forum:

'Food-grade vegetable glycerin is 99.7% pure, with the remaining 0.3% being water. It has a sweet taste, but is metabolized differently than sugar and does not raise blood sugar levels. Glycerin is used in foods marketed as being low in carbohydrates to keep them sweet and moist. It also does not contribute to bacterial tooth decay.'

This would explain why it doesnt list actual 'sugars' under the carbs tab on nutrition info.

Also its apparently documented that nicotine itself has a pretty marked effect on blood sugar levels or at least the 'markers' (?)

There have been several threads here on ECF discussing vaping and diabetes, and its effects on bs.

they both are pretty minimal in terms of calories. for the vg 22 calories per 5 ml is very low considering you might consume it over 2-10 hours.

570 calories per 100 grams is also very low unless you are drinking shots. A few of my juice bottles note a serving size as 2 drops or 0.1 g which is like 0.06 (apprx) calories per serving.

Nicotine is more likely to be causing your spike.

If you vape a standard 3 mls a day of standard 80pg/20vg juice and actually retain 50% absorbed in the bloodstream then you will absorb approximately 5 calories of carbohydrate sugar over a day, that is the equivalent of eating half a sugar cube over the course of a day or a small potato.

I am presuming you cannot eat any root vegetables or bread or any flour based products due to your condition as the sugar content in even small portions of these is vastly in excess of the sugar content in your vaping?

I'm not an expert.

However, it's pretty simple to figure this out for a worst case scenario. Take how much you vape in a day and figure out how much of each ingredient is in that. Assume 100% absorption into your body. Would this intake affect you?

More like 30 grams of potato. See here. That's not much potato over 24 hours.

To answer the Op actual thread name, I've dealt with several US, and Canadian eLiquid makers who clearly state what's in their liquids via the label on the bottle. So not all makers don't tell us.

There are also several absorption studies out there that u can google.

Hope you well be ok OP, Ty for sharing your concern. Always good to know.

No offense meant to anyone who responded, but IMO the OP should talk to his/her personal physician about this and should not rely upon the opinions of strangers.

100% true, but the question was asked, and the answers are completely common sense. From the little reading I've done on the subject some diabetics have more trouble with nicotine than others. Consulting the doctor and reducing or cutting out the nicotine would appear to be the correct course. Hopefully St.Cloud has a doctor who is supportive of vaping instead of smoking and the correct balance can be found.
