Okay, so I decided to practice making some alien wire because I still can't quite get it right - especially with smaller gauge wires. This is 3x24K/30N and it was going okay at first. My spacing is off, but still not bad. Then at the end it started bunching up on me. As far as I can tell, I was using the same amount of tension to apply the wire. Obviously, something went wrong at the end, though. Any ideas on what I did wrong?

    Thanks,
    CC

Your cores started twisting on you. Make sure however you're doing this swivel or freehand that the cores stay completely parallel. Take your time and take it slow at first. I did an inch per every 5 minutes. Now I can bang out 12" in 10 minutes or so.

As @Superfecta_ guided me its all about prep, not getting frustrated and walk away and work on something else and go back to it.

When I first started and the wraps would go haywire, I'd tried to get them back on track just to get the feel down. I knew the coil was spent but I used the rest of the decored Clapton to practice. Hope this helps

DM me if you have any other problems or questions.

Absolutely - thanks! I was definitely trying to go too fast. Also, the original Clapton wasn't as tight at the end when I spun it. Next time I'll just clip that part off.
Anyways, here's the coil I got out of it. 5 wraps around a 7/64 drill bit, 0.17Ω. Disappointed in how it looks, but she vapes pretty decent.

About 3 feet of N80 and about 2.5 feet of KA1 to make this little bugger.

I bet that gnarled coil vapes like a beast. My failed aliens vape really really well. When my cores twist I try to correct it but end up speed drilling it out of frustration then throwing it out in disgust. Makes me feel better, like I won. Me-1. alien-0.

    A beauty!
Beautiful work, I had no idea that could be done with wire.
Thank you! All it takes is practice and YouTube. And the advice from some fine folks here at ECF.
I'm not too proud to post a pic of my very first attempt at a vaping coil.
